Miami’s newest and most unique gallery Artem + Scientia opened with an inaugural exhibition showcasing Dr. Obdulio Piloto’s journey expanding eight years developing groundbreaking technology. The gallery is a one-of-a-kind experience for art collectors seeking to have an impact on humanity beyond the arts. Bringing together the increasingly dissociated and over-specialized disciplines of science, applied technology, and fine art.

Artist, Scientist and Inventor, Dr. Piloto.

His natural brilliance and determination earned Dr. Piloto a place at Cornell University, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University Medical School and pursue post-graduate research at Stanford University. In 2011, Dr. Piloto co-founded Entopsis, a startup backed by visionary Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel (through Breakout Labs) that developed the groundbreaking diagnostic technology of NuTec. Applying methods of molecular portraiture to create cutting-edge works of art, the noble aim of Dr. Piloto’s art is to raise awareness.

Fabien Castanier Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition for Prague-based urban contemporary artist Jan Kaláb, Shape & Tone, held in their Wynwood gallery location from April 6 – 27. This is the artist's second solo exhibition with the gallery and his first solo outing in Miami.

For this show, Kaláb presents new vibrant and dynamic compositions that meld the versatility of his canvas medium with the layered depth of sculpture. Incorporating studies in structure and mood, the artist delivers paintings resplendent in organic form.

Playing with variations in geometry, Kaláb paints on constructed canvases of various shapes and combinations. The evolution of his style has led to a distillation of ephemeral color. He captures light and shade that seem to move with the curves of the substrate, becoming one. For Shape & Tone, his pieces are harmonious and minimalist studies – immersive works that reflect his complex understanding of the fluidity in the signs and symbols of abstraction.

Jan Kaláb was born in Czechoslovakia in 1978, during a time when urban art was not seen in the Eastern world. In the 1990s, when the country began to open itself up to Western influences, Kaláb became one of the pioneers of graffiti art. Since 2007, he has focused on the abstraction of form and color in his studio work, and studied formally at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. For a decade the artist has explored this depth and motion with a vibrant chromatic energy, exhibiting in institutions throughout Europe, and North and South America.

A catalog of work is available, please contact the gallery for more info.

Experience Marcus Jansen’s Exhibition 'Merchants Of Babylon’ At New River Fine Art In Ft. Lauderdale

New River Fine Art presents Merchants of Babylon, an exhibition featuring the art of Marcus Jansen on April 25th with the full exhibition running through May 25th, 2019. The opening reception for the artist will take place on April 25th at the gallery from 6 – 9pm. New River Fine Art is located at 822 East Las Olas Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Marcus Jansen’s socially critical paintings and installations have been exhibited in museums in Italy, Germany and the United States and now they will be in South Florida during a selling exhibition at New River Fine Art.

Marcus Jansen, ‘Grand Chessboard‘, Oil Enamels, Spray Paint and Oil Pastel on Canvas, 60 x 48 Inches.

With museum exhibition credits in Italy, Germany and the United States mounting, New River Fine Art proudly welcomes Marcus Jansen to South Florida for a selling exhibition. Jansen’s art responds to politically charged issues and their effects on the human condition with highly expressive, gritty, inescapable grace and beauty. The painterly complexity of his haunting post-apocalyptic style landscapes and still lifes has critics hailing Jansen as one of the most important American painter of his generation. Meet Marcus Jansen and see his socially critical works of art at the opening reception for Merchants of Babylon. Jansen’s art is rooted in the New York Graffiti scene, but years spent in Germany garnered influence from the Expressionists to develop a language that speaks of a world in turmoil with isolation, threat, war, surveillance and greed in competition with innocence, hope and humanity.

Marcus Jansen, ‘The Desert and Its Tales‘, Oils and Mixed Media on Paper, 19 x 20 Inches.

“Jansen has been called the cartographer of conflict” stated Lisa Burgess, owner of New River Fine Art. “His colors, textures and calligraphic marks imbue an intensity and power to his large-scale paintings that render the human figures seen in many of his works as humbled within the chaos of the surrounding imagery.” Jansen is no stranger to this type of chaos. A veteran of Desert Storm and Desert Shield, he has seen the ravages of war first hand and the experience left an indelible mark on the artist and informs his work.

Marcus Jansen, ‘The Rock In My Hand‘, Oil Enamels, Spray Paint, Oil Pastel and Collage on Canvas, 84 x 72 Inches.

Gallery Director Wissam Elghoul says “Jansen uses light and color to convey a sense of hope in his post-apocalyptic style landscapes. Despite the turmoil, there is a sense that humanity may prevail”. When asked about his own work, the artist comments, “A Painter’s conflict first takes place from within. What you see on canvas is the outcome of decisions based on an intellectual and visual combat. I don’t see my work as political paintings, rather as critical social commentary opposed to political rhetoric.” Political or not, critics are hailing Marcus Jansen as one of the most important American painters of our generation.

Marcus Jansen, ‘Faceless Jackass‘, Oil Enamels on Canvas, 74 x 50 Inches.

The exhibition includes 20 works of art created between 2011 – 2019. A full color exhibition catalog is available. The opening reception for the artist will take place on April 25th at the gallery from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. New River Fine Art is located at 822 East Las Olas Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Marcus Jansen, ‘Water Rising‘, Oil Enamels, Mixed Media on Canvas, 48 x 48 Inches.

New River Fine Art is a world class gallery filled with museum quality art. As South Florida’s oldest and most prestigious fine art gallery, New River Fine Art presents original works and fine prints from Impressionist, 20th Century, Post War and Contemporary Masters, Mid Career and Emerging Artists. PLAY, a short film by internationally collected visual artist & filmmaker Cheryl Maeder. From a higher vantage point, ordinary becomes extraordinary.

PLAY VIDEO INSTALLATION

PLAY Video Installation televised nationally on PBS, Project Filmmaker funded by National Endowment for the Arts. "I was walking through a shopping mall on the top floor and happened to look down at children wildly jumping and playing in this wonderland below. From the vantage point up high, the children looked like tiny elves and fairies jumping, laughing and happily playing in a breakfast-themed playground. I hurriedly went home, grabbed my camera and for several weeks returned to document the children playing. The short film, PLAY, is about the Magic. I am honored that two of the photographs from this series are featured in a prestigious, Curated Photography Collection by Hamburg Kennedy for Foster Care along with Diane Arbus, Sally Mann, Elliott Erwitt and Martin Parr."
