SAVE ART SPACE: New York Open Call ending soon "Home Is Where I Make It" - Curated by The Unapologetic Street Series & Amy Quichiz

SaveArtSpace is proud to present Home Is Where I Make It, a public art exhibition on billboard ad space in New York, NY, opening July 24, 2026, curated by The Unapologetic Street Series & Amy Quichiz.

Home Is Where I Make It explores the various experiences of making homes in places unknown and how those places become core parts of us. So many of us whether immigrants ourselves or children of immigrants have a talent for building new rituals and making anywhere a home. The individual and collective experience of migration is not a monolith, but the overlapping beauties we find along the way are affirming that we share more in common than not when we make homes in new countries. New York City is a powerful example of how many people build coalitions and communities when we seek refuge and solidarity in one another.

Artists of all ages and talents are invited to submit their artwork between April 27 and June 8, 2026 in order to be considered for the exhibition. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on billboard ad space in New York, NY. APPLY HERE.

The application fee is $35 for 1-3 images; each additional image carries a $10 fee. Fees support the production of the exhibition, including the purchase of billboard ad space. All fees paid to SaveArtSpace are 100% tax deductible donations.

Selected artists will be announced after June 22, 2026. Public art will be on view starting July 24, 2026 in New York, NY, and will be on view for at least one month.

Internationally Collected Autistic Artist Vito Bonanno's Artwork in the Corporate Collections of AMAZON and Google

Internationally Collected Mixed Media Artist VITO BONANNO

Vito Bonanno is an internationally collected artist who lives and works on the Connecticut shoreline. He has exhibited in solo exhibitions at Spectrum Miami during Art Basel in Miami, FL, Umbrella Arts Gallery, NYC and Akus Gallery, Willimantic, CT.

Internationally collected artist Vito Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, placing his innermost feelings onto canvas. The New England-based artist's work is image and concept-driven and embedded in his personal philosophy. His art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, and dreams, coupled with objects or topics that "get stuck in his head", including traffic lights, grids, ceiling fans, graffiti, and pop culture. Corporate clients include AMAZON, Google, and The Hartford.

Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, placing his innermost feelings onto canvas. He is an award-winning, world-famous artist with a career spanning back to his childhood. The artist has participated in numerous art fairs, as well as national and international exhibitions, in addition to many art shows and high profile events during Art Basel Miami Beach - such as a past NIKE pop-up in Wynwood during Miami Art Week, as well as traveling in an art van Truck'N With Vito! at Umbrella Arts Gallery in NYC's lower east side, selling his art and spreading awareness about being an artist with autism.

He unveiled his first Solo Exhibition, 'Unfiltered V: Vito Bonanno Riding with the Train Girls', in January 2012 at Akus Gallery at Eastern CT State University which included works on paper, canvas, video pieces, a student-artist interactive mural project, and installations. Akus Gallery Director, Elizabeth Peterson stated, "The characters, objects, and ideas that inhabit Vito Bonanno's work act and interact in striking ways. Caught within the grids and map-like structures he imagines, they are often in a struggle between multiple worlds. He has found a way to tap in the intensity of focus and insight afforded him through autism to unleash a formidable creative power and vision." His winning pieces, ‘Ghost Town on Davenport Avenue’ was exhibited at the S. Dillon Ripley Center of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and then was part of a traveling exhibition that went on a two year nationwide tour of university and independent galleries. Additionally, a second winning piece titled ‘Southhaven People’, was on exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C. before also partaking in the nationwide traveling exhibition that ran through September 2011.

He is one of only 16 artists in the United States selected for a prestigious exhibition of previous awardees from the VSA Emerging Artists Program in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations with sponsorship from the Volkswagen Group of America. As part of the celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the ADA and 40th Anniversary of VSA in 2015, the exhibition included the work of select artists who represented the past 13 years of the VSA Emerging Young Artist Program; Curated by Stephanie Moore, she chose Bonanno's 'Daffy Goes to Waterbury with a Ninja Turtle' and 'SECR Toilet' to be part of the exhibition.

Vito is aligned with ArtLifting, which is a non-for-profit art organization that empowers artists living with disabilities through the celebration and sale of their artwork. ArtLifting is about creating opportunity, empowerment, and validation. This collaboration opened many new and exciting opportunities for the artist, which includes his work in Google's corporate collection, with art hanging in their Leesburg, VA offices, as well as Amazon, for one of their corporate buildings in Seattle, Washington.

Bonanno was diagnosed with PDD/Autism just before his 4th birthday. Because he was language delayed, his parents and teachers developed strategies that tapped into his high visual acuity, utilizing storyboard styles to relay academic and social information. He was also encouraged to draw in storyboard format to express his feelings. The storyboard grid remains prominent in his work and studio preparation today and is a poignant reminder of a boy who was trapped in his own mind.

Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center to Present Tomokazu Matsuyama: Morning Sun | June 20 - October 5, 2025

to Present

Tomokazu Matsuyama: Morning Sun

June 20 - October 5, 2025

Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center is pleased to present Tomokazu Matsuyama: Morning Sun, an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by the contemporary Japanese American artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (Matsu). The exhibition offers a contemporary tribute to Edward Hopper's iconic 1952 painting Morning Sun (Columbus Museum of Art), delving into the complexities of solitude and life in a globalized, consumer-driven world—recurring themes in Matsu's work. To engage with Hopper's themes, Matsu intricately weaves together diverse visual references that reflect his cross-cultural background and observations of contemporary society. The exhibition will be on view from June 20 through October 5, 2025 with a members and public opening reception on the opening day at 6:30pm, (RSVP via Museum website.)

The exhibition centers around Matsu's new large-scale painting Morning Sun Dance. Of the work that inspired his painting, Matsu says, "While Hopper's Morning Sun captures a moment of introspective stillness within the psychological landscape of mid-century urban life, his treatment of solitude, light, and constructed space continues to influence my own approach to thinking about isolation as well as my approach to painting."

In Morning Sun, Hopper depicts a woman sitting on her bed in the sun, alone in an empty room, wearing a plain orange dress and a simple, contemplative expression. In Morning Sun Dance, Matsu paints a solitary woman with a similarly meditative demeanor. However, her environment is far more richly layered: the room is filled with personal artifacts—dogs, magazines, and a luxurious couch—reflecting contemporary material life. Notably, the presence of dogs, while suggesting companionship, also references historical depictions such as Toutou, le bien aimé (1885) by Rosa Bonheur and A Nurse and a Child in an Elegant Foyer (1663) by Jacob Ochtervelt, in which dogs symbolized wealth and ownership. In Matsu's work, these animals subtly underscore solitude rather than alleviate it—suggesting not connection, but the heightened self-awareness of being alone. The woman's clothing fuses Western and Japanese motifs—a William Morris textile layered with traditional patterns—while a Sports Illustrated poster of Muhammad Ali nods to her alignment with diversity, strength, and modern identity. In contrast to Hopper's figure, who gazes outward toward the cityscape, Matsu's subject turns inward, facing her domestic space. This shift in gaze implies a broader narrative: solitude, once externalized and meditative, is now negotiated through personal space and cultural consumption.

The exhibition will also feature Matsu's process drawings, which reveal how the artist engaged with Hopper's use of light, figuration, and abstraction. Two additional smaller paintings by Matsu also reinterpret Hopper's iconic figure in the orange dress—one from Hopper's original perspective, and the other from an external vantage point, as if observing the figure from the outside. The small painted compositions are Matsu's starting point, where he establishes the chromatic atmosphere and sensory experience he delivers.

"This exhibition offers a fascinating dialogue between two artists from different eras, both grappling with the complexities of modern life and the experience of solitude," says Kathleen Motes Bennewitz, Executive Director of the Edward Hopper House Museum. "Matsu's vibrant and layered response to Hopper's work invites us to reconsider themes of isolation and introspection through a contemporary lens, highlighting the enduring relevance of Hopper's vision while embracing new perspectives."

Tomokazu Matsuyama: Morning Sun is made possible, in part, by SRI Fine Art Services, and funds provided by the New York Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

About Tomokazu Matsuyama: Born in 1976 in Gifu, Japan, Matsuyama is based in Brooklyn, New York. Located 30 miles north of New York in the most charming Hudson River town in Rockland County, Edward Hopper House Museum is the historic family home (built 1858) where America's renowned artist was born and spent the first 26 years of his life. The Magnificent Sculptures Of Ágnes Nagy Combine Reality, Imagination, Nature & Mysticism

Hungarian Sculptor Ágnes Nagy has been developing her career as a sculptor since childhood. Her large statues of animals embody specific spiritual, ideological and moral meaning. At a very young age Ágnes Nagy attended the Medgyessy Ferenc sculpting workshop led by the sculptor Gábor Szabó in Pestújhely, one of the northern suburbs of Budapest. And later graduated from the Secondary School of Fine and Applied Arts of Budapest, known as “Kisképző” in 1994. Her large statues of animals in glazed fireclay, brass, bronze, and steel mixed media embody specific spiritual, ideological and moral meaning.

‘ELEPHANT’, Glazed fireclay, 100 x 60 x 60 cm, 2010 In the Private Collection of the European scupture garden in Balatonalmádi, Hungary Exhibited at Gallery Virág Judit in 2011, the City Zoo Budapest, Hungary in 2011, and the Natural Science Museum Budapest, Hungary in 2012

“The framework of my life is made through my sculpting, and it is able to hold me on the ground as much as it is able to take me away from reality both in years with difficulties and trials and the happy and successful periods of time,” said Nagy of her work. As far as her subject matter is concerned, “I didn’t choose animals, they were the ones who found me and refuse to let me go for now,” explained the artist.

‘RHINO’, Glazed fireclay, 80 x 40 x 45 cm, 2007Private Collection. Exhibited at Virág Judit Gallery 2011, Budapest City Zoo 2011, the Natural Science Museum 2012, Villa Vaszary Balatonfüred 2018, Falk Art Forum 2018

Ágnes Nagy’s work was recently exhibited at Art Palm Beach from January 31 – February 03, 2020 with Erdész Gallery & Design. “The expressiveness of Nagy’s artistic credo is embodied in bronze, glazed fireclay, stainless steel, and realistic animal portrayals. Every sculpture by Ágnes can be given a specific spiritual, ideological and moral meaning—that may be reformulated by the viewer in several ways,” said Adam Erdesz of Erdész Gallery.

Art Palm Beach 2020, Booth 536, Erdész Gallery & Design

“Art is a way of life in which the artist’s professional and personal life are not separated. It’s not a consciously made choice, so every artist takes the responsibility to do what they love most and are the best at, and through it all they can produce something for people to enjoy. Anyone who has ever visited an exhibition or has artwork in their home will know the power of art. It can impress people, fill them up with positive vibes, can contribute to the growth of their personality and sense of style, and their becoming something more.

'Unicorn', Glazed Fireclay, etchingmixed media, 122 x 84 cm, 2019
By creating art, I can connect to people on an entirely different level, I can reach emotional strings vibrating deep inside, which is only possible through art.” This internationally collected sculptor plans to hold more exhibitions in the United States, "visual arts are about designing objects and figurative and non-figurative shapes, and I am fundamentally interested in creating artworks that can be displayed in indoor spaces, a piece of art that people can live with. This is a tiny market in Hungary, collectors and artists know each other by name. The segment of the customers who purchase contemporary sculptures is even smaller. It is necessary to extend this market to international customers.”

New month. New look. New tools. Same Superfine!

Change is good.

For four years, Superfine! blazed a trail of accessibility and transparency in the art market, converting countless art lovers into collectors, and sparking change in each Superfine! city and how its denizens view and interact with contemporary art.
With Superfine's new look, they're not shifting identities but evolving. Their core mission remains the same: to build an art fair that represents the pinnacle of accessible contemporary art, breaks down barriers by challenging stuffy art world norms, and creates a more friendly, inclusive space to discover, collect, and sell art. In that process they've pioneered strategies that level the playing field and set a new standard for curation within the segment of the art market with the most movement in sales. Their goal is to advance buyer trust, widening the market by redefining exactly who a collector really is.

Superfine! has shifted to a visual language that reflects how serious and dedicated they are to these goals. Along with a new look, here are just a few of the ways they're innovating towards a strong, sustainable new art market.
Better financing options.
More than 50% of their artists and galleries at Superfine! LA offered collectors the ability to pay via Art Money (an interest-free credit system). It's also important for them to stay on the cutting edge of how their direct clients - artists and galleries - can leverage new methods to thrive. Cash flow concerns can keep emerging galleries and artists from taking valuable opportunities, and Superfine! has introduced financing tools for them as well:
Square Installments
Galleries and artists in 22 states can apply for credit via Square Installments to pay for their booth(s) in as many as 12 monthly payments.
TransferWise
Using this service pioneered by Skype's first employee, Superfine's global exhibitors can lock in interest rates instead of being subject to the whims of banks.
Transparent Up-Front Discounts
You help Superfine's cash flow, they help yours. Pay up front and receive a 5% net discount. Two fairs? 10% Three? 15%. Ask for more details.
Challenge yourself.
Superfine! has always emphasized a strong curatorial approach, and 2019 brings with it an even greater focus on accessible art interventions that tap into the zeitgeist while giving voice to a diverse body of artists from across the globe.

Each fair will host at least three curatorial projects and installations, with an emphasis on LGBTQ+ artists and themes, along with artists from diverse walks of life channeling their experiences into tangible, exciting, immersive environments.
Where will they go next?
It's no secret that Superfine! landed in L.A. last month, and they'll be back again next year. In 2020, the fair will also expand to two more west coast cities as well as strengthening their east coast strongholds in New York and Washington DC with fairs that grow both in size and in focus, along with an amplified year-round Collectors' Society program in all cities.
