Dancing Tree: a short film by photographer and video/sound installation artist Cheryl Maeder

Experience a short film 'Dancing Tree' by Cheryl Maeder

"There are times I find myself living in a black and white world. When I am in this state, I separate from Nature; and therefore, I separate from my very core of being. Living in this black and white world of judgements, I cannot see the true colors of Nature, and hear the masterpiece that is Nature’s Symphony. When I am truly living in the present, I am living in harmony with Nature. I experience her dazzling display of colors, and the ballet of her movements, of which I am an integral part of." Cheryl Maeder, Photographer and Video/Sound Installation Artist.

The Bass Miami Beach: Open Call to Artists!

THE BASS: NEW MONUMENTS ARTIST OPEN CALL

The Bass, Miami Beach's contemporary art museum, announces the second cycle of New Monuments, a project supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation through the museum's Knight Art Commissions Program established in 2019.

Open to artists living or working in Miami-Dade County, New Monuments invites project submissions that visualize a new, temporary monument atop a plinth in Collins Park. The Bass' curatorial team and external jurors will select one artist each year for five years to create a work that will be on view for 10-12 months at a time.

The Bass is situated in Collins Park, a public park in Miami Beach, where there are presently four monuments that were commissioned by different groups at various times. Sitting atop stone plinths in the south side of the park, these existing monuments pay homage to Cuban epidemiologist Dr. Carlos Finlay, Venezuelan political leader Simón Bolívar, Nicaraguan scientist Dr. Luis Henry Debayle and Cuban writer Jose Martí.

In 2021, we continue to witness an international debate on monuments, reconsidering who they honor, their purpose, relevance, and the validity of their continued existence. Building upon the context of engaging in current conversations on monuments and their legitimacy, New Monuments provides local artists the opportunity to produce a temporary, new, fifth monument. The inaugural New Monument (Najja Moon's Yo' Mamma's Voice in the Back of Your Head), was installed in March of this year and remains on view through January 2022.

"The Bass conceived of New Monuments as a way to elevate the artistic voices in Miami," said Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director and Chief Curator of The Bass. "This project creates an opportunity for artists in our community to engage in the international conversation and consider what person, group of people, place, or idea they feel should be honored atop a plinth in an urban park in Miami Beach today."

Black, indigenous and/or people of color (BIPOC) artists are strongly encouraged to apply. The Bass will pay for all costs relating to the project including production, engineering, installation and maintenance. The selected artist will also receive a $5,000 honorarium.

"Historically, artists have expressed what was, what is and what could be through their work.  Through the lens of artists in Miami we've been moved to see the 'other' in ourselves, question and challenge long-held beliefs and connect people to place and each other," said Victoria Rogers, Knight's vice president for the Arts. "The New Monuments open call invites artists to re-imagine the purpose, relevance and validity of monuments.  I look forward to seeing what they choose to reflect."

To apply, artists will propose an idea for a monument that fits conceptually with New Monuments, considering reasonable materials that will retain integrity outdoors for one year and a work that can anchor to a 24-by-24-inch base plinth outdoors. Applicants must submit a drawing or computer rendering to illustrate the proposed monument, a 500-word statement about the proposal, a CV/resume, and at least three visual examples of past work.

The deadline to apply is Friday August 27 at 11:59 PM EST. Applicants will receive a notification by September 17.

Information sessions hosted by The Bass Curator Leilani Lynch will take place August 10 and 24 at 6pm.

the Broward County Aviation Department invite professional South
Florida artists to apply for rotating exhibition opportunities at the
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s Terminal 2 Art Gallery

The Terminal 2 Art Gallery is located post-security on the
departures level of Terminal 2. The gallery consists of two
(2) separate walls, each measuring 24 ft. wide by 8.8 ft. high
that face passenger hold rooms.

This gallery space offers South Florida artists an excellent

for one exhibition covering two (2) 24 ft. wide by 7 ft. high
wall areas (a 1.8 ft. high area at the bottom of the wall is
reserved for charging stations).

Each exhibition will run for six months. Artworks demonstrating
high artistic quality that appeal to a diverse audience are
encouraged. All art forms and mediums will be considered, as
long as the subject matter is appropriate for all airport visitors.
Due to the layout of the gallery space, artwork that projects
more than 6″ from the wall and freestanding works will not
be considered. Selected artists must commit to displaying their
work for the full length of the exhibit.

Exhibition Budget

A Broward County selected art handler will assist with the
installation of the exhibit at no cost to the artist (specialized
installation services are not included). Selected artists will
receive a flat honorarium of $2,500 upon the conclusion of
their exhibition and submittal of a proper invoice.

Artist Eligibility

All professional South Florida based artists eighteen years of
age or older, living and working in South Florida (Broward,
Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties) are encouraged to apply.

SaveArtSpace has partnered with Meow Wolf to present Portals & Pathways, a public art exhibition on billboards in Las Vegas, Nevada

SaveArtSpace has partnered with Meow Wolf to present Portals & Pathways, a public art exhibition on billboards in Las Vegas, Nevada

As simple as doors and windows, as infinite as the hidden galaxies of the imagination, our existence is a constant journey through portals and along pathways both visible and not, always moving through space and time, with these markers that frame the flow uniquely for each of us. Viewpoints, perspectives, rites of passage, the structures both simple and complex that define our journeys, as well as the journeys we didn’t take.

This partnership between Meow Wolf Las Vegas, creators of the new immersive art attraction Omega Mart, and non-profit organization SaveArtSpace will increase public accessibility to art while simultaneously creating opportunities for artists’ work to be viewed by thousands of people in a public setting, likely for the first time.

We invite artists of all ages and talents to submit their artwork between June 14 and August 2, 2021. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on ad space in Las Vegas, NV.

Curated by Spencer Olsen, Fawn Douglas, Robin Slonina, and Christy Sakamoto.

There is a $10 donation per image submission to participate, each donation is tax-deductible and goes to producing the public art. Each artist is encouraged to submit up to 10 images. The selected artists will be announced after August 16 and will be exhibited on ad spaces in Las Vegas, launching September 13 for at least one month.
