SaveArtSpace is proud to present Home Is Where I Make It, a public art exhibition on billboard ad space in New York, NY, opening July 24, 2026, curated by The Unapologetic Street Series & Amy Quichiz.

Home Is Where I Make It explores the various experiences of making homes in places unknown and how those places become core parts of us. So many of us whether immigrants ourselves or children of immigrants have a talent for building new rituals and making anywhere a home. The individual and collective experience of migration is not a monolith, but the overlapping beauties we find along the way are affirming that we share more in common than not when we make homes in new countries. New York City is a powerful example of how many people build coalitions and communities when we seek refuge and solidarity in one another.

Artists of all ages and talents are invited to submit their artwork between April 27 and June 8, 2026 in order to be considered for the exhibition. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on billboard ad space in New York, NY. APPLY HERE.

The application fee is $35 for 1-3 images; each additional image carries a $10 fee. Fees support the production of the exhibition, including the purchase of billboard ad space. All fees paid to SaveArtSpace are 100% tax deductible donations. 

Selected artists will be announced after June 22, 2026. Public art will be on view starting July 24, 2026 in New York, NY, and will be on view for at least one month.

I grew up in Queens in New York City and never even saw the woods until I was a young adult. It was such a sublime feeling when I experienced natural darkness in a forest for the first time. That initial excitement and exhilaration of being present with the trees and feeling the rocks beneath my feet is deeply ingrained within myself. As a contemporary wildlife-focused artist and a burgeoning nature photographer living in a big urban city, I have grown to appreciate the beauty and dangers of the natural world as it contends with humankind. Civilization was built on the back of nature and you really cannot separate them. Birds nest on the cornices of buildings and rats run around with the backdrop of neon lights glinting in the distance. Experience contemporary artist Christian Burnham in an exhibition at ArtExpo New York, Booth S307 at Pier 36 NYC from Thursday, April 9th through Sunday, April 12th. Christian Burnham is a contemporary artist, born in 1973 in Eastbourne, England, and currently based in Hasselt, Belgium. Subject Matter & Vision

Burnham’s art is driven by an innate creative impulse, functioning as both a meditative practice and a form of storytelling. His work strives to evoke emotion, raise awareness, and offer a voice for recovery. He explores the complexities of addiction, healing, and the human experience, frequently delving into themes of spirituality, philosophical questions about reality, and the influence of the pre-conditioned mind. These inquiries form the foundation of his artistic inspiration.

Technique & Process

His artistic process merges street art aesthetics with fine art craftsmanship, using spray paint, acrylics, markers, and Japanese inks in combination with meticulously designed stencils. He works across a variety of surfaces, including canvas, wood, and metals. A vital part of Burnham’s process involves setting up installations of objects, which he photographs to use as references for his compositions. In other instances, he combines several images or draws by hand to construct a scene, later refining the imagery digitally in Illustrator and/or Photoshop. The finalized designs are then translated into hand-cut stencils used in the finished works.

His approach balances controlled precision with spontaneous expression, allowing the artwork to evolve organically while maintaining a strong conceptual focus. His development as an artist has been shaped by personal transformation, experimentation, and a continuous search for new modes of expression. From his earliest works to his most recent pieces, Burnham has consistently pushed the boundaries of stencil art, evolving both technically and conceptually.

The Angels & Demons Series

A pivotal moment in his artistic journey came with the Angels & Demons series, which introduced three-dimensional elements and layered symbolic storytelling. Influenced by his recovery from addiction, Burnham began incorporating cut glass bottles into his work, sealing them with epoxy resin to create sculptural features within his paintings. As part of the process, the bottles were refilled with alcohol, symbolically sealing it away forever. Some were adorned with angel wings to signify redemption, while others bore demon wings to represent struggle and temptation. This series marked not only a technical innovation but also a deeply personal meditation on addiction, resilience, and transformation.

SaveArtSpace Announces New Call For Art: Restoration: Now or Never? / London, UK - Open call ends April 26, 2021

 

Restoration: Now or Never? is a public art exhibition organized by Anne Verhallen and Daria Borisova, in collaboration with SaveArtSpace. The exhibition, spanning across London advertisement spaces like billboards, kiosks and bus shelters, is in conjunction with World Environment Day in the UK, a day committed to encouraging awareness and action to protect our environment. Bringing emerging and established artists together, this will be the first UK activation by the non-profit SaveArtSpace. Curated by Anne Verhallen, Daria Borisova, Michael Xufu Huang, Aindrea Emelife, and Destinee Ross-Sutton.

National Call for Artists: Black & White

The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, September 26 - October 24, 2020 at the BWAC Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. $2,500 in cash awards. Juror: Jenée-Daria Strand. Open to all residents of the U.S. and its territories 18 years of age or older, this is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Limited edition prints must be numbered. Crafts, kit work or reproductions (i.e. giclee) of original works in other media, unless used as part of a mixed media work, will not be considered. $35 for 3 entries; $5 each additional image. Call for Artists: SaveArtSpace Announces New Open Call

SaveArtSpace, collaborating with Art At A Time Like This, is looking for artists of all kinds to submit work to an open call for the public art project, Ministry of Truth: 1984-2020, presenting artworks on billboards around NYC. "To be launched in October 2020, just in time for the election, we are looking for artworks that comment on the current state of U.S. politics and will stimulate dialogue about the increasing polarization of our society. Ministry of Truth: 1984/2020 is a reference to George Orwell's dystopian novel as artists feel compelled to address the lies, fake news, trolling and propaganda in today's political rhetoric. 50 years ago, Orwell predicted a Ministry of Truth announcing WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH, horrifyingly relevant in 2020. It is up to artists with their creative imagination to envision a different future for our country." Dread Scott, Deb Kass, Marilyn Minter, and Shirin Neshat and other internationally renowned artists will be designing new work to present specifically for this project. The other 50% of artists will be chosen by an open call available to all—students, artists, activists, and concerned citizens. SaveArtSpace is pleased to announce a partnership with Art4Equality and The Untitled Space for an empowering public art series of billboards in New York City launching this September 2020, along with an exhibition of the artwork created for the series to be presented at The Untitled Space gallery this fall.

“What do these words mean to you: “Equality,” “Life,” “Liberty,” “The Pursuit of Happiness”? We live in an unprecedented time, our liberties robbed by a global pandemic, which laid painfully bare the inequities that have plagued the most vulnerable in our society for far too long. Political polarization in the United States is reaching critical mass with a divisive political system at war. Realities of social inequality and racial injustice are challenging our ability to have confidence in a promising future. With the 2020 elections approaching, we feel it is a crucial time to create an opportunity for artists to respond to our current situation, with the artwork presented in a public platform, where it can reach an audience of millions of people every day and promote an inclusive dialogue. The public art series “Art4Equality x Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness” seeks to empower, enlighten, and shed a ray of hope on a city that has been under a dark cloud, in a country that is in tatters not only by an invisible virus, but also by political and civil unrest. The billboard transformed into an art display is an innovative, and ultimately accessible way to present contemporary art, transforming spaces normally dedicated to advertising into public art that has power and impact.”

Artists are asked to be creative, with artwork inspired by 1 or more of the words or phrases of the theme. Each billboard will feature your artwork along with your name and the title of the artwork. This open call is open to all artists, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or practice. All mediums are welcome.

Please submit artwork between June 10 and August 10, 2020. This is your opportunity to have your art on ad space in NYC!

There is a $10 donation per image submission to participate, each donation is a tax deduction and goes to producing the public art. Each artist is encouraged to submit up to 10 images. The selected artists will be announced after August 24, and will be exhibited on ad space in NYC starting September 21 for at least one month, with an Artist Reception on September 24th presented by The Untitled Space.

Rockport Art Association & Museum announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, December 5-31, 2020 at the Rockport Art Association & Museum in Rockport, Massachusetts. Over $5,000 in Prizes! Jurors: Cindy House for the category of Traditional Art, and Professor Bruce Herman, Gordon College, in the category of Contemporary Art. In 2020, Clay Art Center’s gallery theme is Welcome Home, which will focus on all the elements that make a home; exploring the meaning of family, the daily routines, moments and items that surround us and add to our sense of home, and the interaction of the people within to create that place which develops our sense of identity.

"Our Call For Entry Exhibition is 'The Family Portrait', and our guest juror is Kukuli Velarde. We invite artists to submit works that look at the family unit as image, as a system, and as historical reference and contemporary metaphor for where we are as a culture, a society, and in our sense of selves."

“It is haunting to think about those who were here in the world before us. Who were those people who passed their DNA to us, and with it, gave us imprinted memories of their times, and the times in which their own ancestors lived?

There were a number of impossible-to-imagine acts of love, and also acts of violence, for us to become. What is a family portrait, if not a snapshot we choose to grab from a history of hundreds of years of survival, overcoming, and living; living with all our might and against all odds? A family portrait might not include blood related individuals, or even those with whom we share physical likeness. It could mean perhaps the physical rendering of a trait, that appears in the family tree as a legacy from our ancestors. It could be the sum of cultural elements of the place where we came from, or parents came from, or grandparents came from. It could be an object that symbolizes the combination of cultural roots. It could be a self-portrait depicting the cultural elements that we recognize in ourselves and that belong to our heritage. Who are we but the sum of many lives, many experiences, many paths. Let’s think of the offspring that will come in a hundred years from your family tree; as her/his ancestor, what could you communicate about you, and the ones that preceded you?”

Juror

Kukuli Velarde is an internationally renowned Peruvian born artist, whose works address issues of gender, social and cultural identity and hierarchies, tradition and inheritance, investigated and interpreted though the reference of historical and religious imagery. Kukuli is the recipient of several major awards and grants including most recently, the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, New York, and the Grand Prize Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, South Korea. Any currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate or non-matriculated artist (with previous degree) in the United States over the age of 18. Works presented must be available and for sale at time of show. Primary medium must be in clay.
