Zimbabwean art, culture, identity, and heritage take center stage this September with Tsika Dzedu: Zimbabwe National Exhibition & Competition 2026, an important new platform bringing artists and the broader cultural community together at the Artgal Zim Center in Domboshava.

Taking place from September 8–12, 2026, Tsika Dzedu will culminate in a vernissage and awards ceremony on September 12, celebrating the artists and creative voices participating in this year’s national exhibition and competition.

Following the main event, the selected artworks will remain on exhibition at the Artgal Zim Center for an additional three weeks, providing audiences with an extended opportunity to experience the work beyond the opening celebrations.

Celebrating Zimbabwean Culture

Tsika Dzedu centers on themes of culture, identity, heritage, and the traditions that continue to shape Zimbabwe. The exhibition provides artists with a platform to explore the many dimensions of Zimbabwean cultural experience while presenting their work to audiences both locally and internationally.

With the Artgal Zim Center serving as its physical cultural and educational base, the exhibition reflects Artgal’s broader mission of creating opportunities for Zimbabwean artists, expanding access to their work, and strengthening connections between local artistic production and the international art community.

From Icelandic Jewelry Designer to London-based Painter, Hendrikka Waage´s Journey Reflects a Rich Tapestry of Artistic Evolution

Internationally collected contemporary artist Hendrikka Waage continues to expand her evolving art practice through a body of work that explores energy, emotional presence, perception, and the complexity of human attention in contemporary life. Born and raised in Reykjavik and currently splitting her time between London and Iceland, Waage brings a distinctly international perspective to her work, shaped by decades of creative practice and life experiences spanning Japan, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Her paintings merge expressive color, layered texture, and symbolic figuration into compositions that feel both emotionally immediate and deeply contemplative.

Before transitioning fully into painting, Waage spent more than two decades as an acclaimed jewelry designer, an experience that continues to influence her sensitivity to material, balance, texture, and detail. Her now-recognizable “Wonderful Beings” series — often featuring female figures with a single ear — emerged as a reflection on selective listening and the overwhelming nature of modern information culture. Through vibrant surfaces and emotionally charged compositions, Waage explores the idea that not everything demands our attention, inviting viewers instead into a quieter, more intuitive space centered on presence, resonance, and emotional clarity. We recently had the pleasure to chat with the artist to learn more about her work, and current projects:


Q – Your creative journey began in luxury jewelry design. What inspired your transition to painting?

A – Art has always been part of my life, I grew up drawing and painting. Jewelry design became my first professional outlet but during the COVID years I found myself returning to painting. What started as a personal rediscovery quickly evolved into a vital part of my creative journey. The shift happened quite naturally. After two decades of crafting jewelry, I started to create portraits of my “Wonderful beings” featuring ladies with a single ear, exploring the theme of selective listening in our information-saturated age. The motif is open to interpretation, but one interpretation is that in today´s world, with an influx of information coming from every direction, you don´t have to listen to everything. Ultimately the motif is open-ended, open to boundless possibilities from one viewer to the next. My work and style reflects the inspirations from my travels and the countries I have lived in including Iceland, Japan, Russia, USA, and UK. I currently split my time between Reykjavik and London.

Q – How does your background in fine jewelry influence your approach to materials and texture?

A – Jewelry taught me discipline, attention to detail, and sensitivity to materials. That carries into my paintings through a focus on texture, layering, and surface. Each work is built carefully, with an emphasis on balance, depth, and subtlety.


Q – What ideas, themes, or emotions are you currently exploring in your paintings?

A – I do work a lot on my selective listening theme. I am exploring ideas around energy, movement, and emotional presence — how a painting can hold a kind of vitality that feels immediate and alive. In my current work, I am exploring the idea of energy of joy at a higher frequency — how a painting can carry a sense of vibration, lightness, and elevation that is felt as much as it is seen.

Q – Can you describe your studio process when developing a new piece?

A – I usually work with my concept in mind and I begin with loose sketches. On my larger paintings, I experiment more with layering and texture, and I test how different materials interact before committing to a direction. Usually, it comes easy and I work intuitively and often revisit the work as well.


Q – How do you see your work evolving as you prepare for your upcoming exhibition?

A – As I prepare for the upcoming exhibition, I see my work evolving in a way that feels more focused and intentional, while still holding onto the sense of energy and spontaneity that drives my process. Iam also becoming more aware of how the works relate to one another as a group. Its not just about individual pieces anymore,but about creating a dialogue across the exhibition — where energy, color, and movement carry through the space in a cohesive way.

Q – What draws you to Miami as a place to present your work?

A – What draws me to Miami as a place to present my work is both personal and professional. I have a deep connection to the area, having lived in Fort Lauderdale for five years in my late twenties while completing my bachelor´s and master’s degrees. During that time, I visited Miami often and developed a strong appreciation for its energy, diversity, and vibrant art scene. Miami feels like a natural fit for my work. The city has a unique openness to color, expression, and experimentation that really resonates with my practice. I´ve also had the opportunity to exhibit twice at Red Dot Miami, where my work was very well received and sold successfully. Those experiences reinforced my sense that Miami is not just a place I enjoy personally, but also a place where my work connects strongly with an audience.


Q – What do you hope collectors experience when they encounter your painting?

A – I hope they feel a strong sense of energy and joy — an immediate, instinctive pull that draws them in. There’s an energy in the work that I want to feel uplifting and alive, something that resonates without needing explanation. Ultimately, I hope the work brings a dynamic presence into a space — something that energizes, uplifts, and continues to evolve with the viewer over time.

Q – You have exhibited your work during Art Basel Miami Beach before, will you be showcasing your art work during Miami Art Week again this year?

A – Yes, and this time around I will be at SCOPE Miami Beach, represented by Artio Gallery. I am really looking forward to it.


As her international visibility and popularity continue to grow, Waage’s work increasingly resonates with collectors and audiences both globally and within the Miami market. Following successful presentations during Art Basel Miami Beach Week and beyond, the artist now prepares for upcoming exhibitions and new presentations that further expand the dialogue surrounding her work, its evolving visual language, and its growing international reach.

The Contemporary Art Modern Project (CAMP Gallery) is currently running an incredible exhibition in collaboration with Red Thread Art Studio Miami, Under The Red Tent, an immersive fiber exhibition that brings together artists whose practices engage thread and textile as tools of storytelling, connection, and resistance. Red Thread Art Studio Miami was founded by fiber artist Aurora Molina. Under The Red Tent will be on view through Sunday, April 26th.

In alignment with The CAMP Gallery’s emphasis on participation and dialogue, Under The Red Tent incorporates a living oral-history archive that unfolds throughout the exhibition. The exhibition’s themes echo the novel The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, where the red tent becomes a physical sanctuary for women to gather during menstruation and childbirth, as a symbol of feminine community, strength, and generational wisdom.

Burnham’s art is driven by an innate creative impulse, functioning as both a meditative practice and a form of storytelling. His work strives to evoke emotion, raise awareness, and offer a voice for recovery. He explores the complexities of addiction, healing, and the human experience, frequently delving into themes of spirituality, philosophical questions about reality, and the influence of the pre-conditioned mind. These inquiries form the foundation of his artistic inspiration.

Technique & Process

His artistic process merges street art aesthetics with fine art craftsmanship, using spray paint, acrylics, markers, and Japanese inks in combination with meticulously designed stencils. He works across a variety of surfaces, including canvas, wood, and metals. A vital part of Burnham’s process involves setting up installations of objects, which he photographs to use as references for his compositions. In other instances, he combines several images or draws by hand to construct a scene, later refining the imagery digitally in Illustrator and/or Photoshop. The finalized designs are then translated into hand-cut stencils used in the finished works.

His approach balances controlled precision with spontaneous expression, allowing the artwork to evolve organically while maintaining a strong conceptual focus. His development as an artist has been shaped by personal transformation, experimentation, and a continuous search for new modes of expression. From his earliest works to his most recent pieces, Burnham has consistently pushed the boundaries of stencil art, evolving both technically and conceptually.

A pivotal moment in his artistic journey came with the Angels & Demons series, which introduced three-dimensional elements and layered symbolic storytelling. Influenced by his recovery from addiction, Burnham began incorporating cut glass bottles into his work, sealing them with epoxy resin to create sculptural features within his paintings. As part of the process, the bottles were refilled with alcohol, symbolically sealing it away forever. Some were adorned with angel wings to signify redemption, while others bore demon wings to represent struggle and temptation. This series marked not only a technical innovation but also a deeply personal meditation on addiction, resilience, and transformation.

He is an award-winning, world-famous artist with a career spanning back to his childhood. The artist has participated in numerous art fairs, as well as national and international exhibitions, in addition to many art shows and high profile events during Art Basel Miami Beach - such as a past NIKE pop-up in Wynwood during Miami Art Week, as well as traveling in an art van Truck'N With Vito! at Umbrella Arts Gallery in NYC's lower east side, selling his art and spreading awareness about being an artist with autism.

'Vito's Mind'

He unveiled his first Solo Exhibition, 'Unfiltered V: Vito Bonanno Riding with the Train Girls', in January 2012 at Akus Gallery at Eastern CT State University which included works on paper, canvas, video pieces, a student-artist interactive mural project, and installations. Akus Gallery Director, Elizabeth Peterson stated, "The characters, objects, and ideas that inhabit Vito Bonanno's work act and interact in striking ways. Caught within the grids and map-like structures he imagines, they are often in a struggle between multiple worlds. He has found a way to tap in the intensity of focus and insight afforded him through autism to unleash a formidable creative power and vision." His winning pieces, ‘Ghost Town on Davenport Avenue’ was exhibited at the S. Dillon Ripley Center of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and then was part of a traveling exhibition that went on a two year nationwide tour of university and independent galleries. Additionally, a second winning piece titled ‘Southhaven People’, was on exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C. before also partaking in the nationwide traveling exhibition that ran through September 2011.

He is one of only 16 artists in the United States selected for a prestigious exhibition of previous awardees from the VSA Emerging Artists Program in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations with sponsorship from the Volkswagen Group of America. As part of the celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the ADA and 40th Anniversary of VSA in 2015, the exhibition included the work of select artists who represented the past 13 years of the VSA Emerging Young Artist Program; Curated by Stephanie Moore, she chose Bonanno's 'Daffy Goes to Waterbury with a Ninja Turtle' and 'SECR Toilet' to be part of the exhibition.

Vito is aligned with ArtLifting, which is a non-for-profit art organization that empowers artists living with disabilities through the celebration and sale of their artwork. ArtLifting is about creating opportunity, empowerment, and validation. This collaboration opened many new and exciting opportunities for the artist, which includes his work in Google's corporate collection, with art hanging in their Leesburg, VA offices, as well as Amazon, for one of their corporate buildings in Seattle, Washington.

'Channels 1'

Bonanno was diagnosed with PDD/Autism just before his 4th birthday. Because he was language delayed, his parents and teachers developed strategies that tapped into his high visual acuity, utilizing storyboard styles to relay academic and social information. He was also encouraged to draw in storyboard format to express his feelings. The storyboard grid remains prominent in his work and studio preparation today and is a poignant reminder of a boy who was trapped in his own mind.

Arts Warehouse presents Summer Heat Exhibition

The Contemporary Modern Art Project (CAMP Gallery) presents 'Postcards From The Artist' running through June 27th

 

The Contemporary Art Modern Project (CAMP Gallery) announces its May exhibition: Postcards from The Artist with a group exhibition featuring works from: Milton Bowens, Laetitia Adam and Oluwatomisin Olabode. Each of these artists creates work explaining their journeys through life and the art world brimming with lived experience, ancestral and historical experiences inherited. The history of an individual is deeply connected to the stories passed down, the experiences encountered and witnessed and the interpreter of all of the above. Identity is a condition constantly influx, due to not just the external world and its ever revolving revolt of both history and perception, but also due to time, and the experiences that come with time. The optimistic child full of imagination and dreams can often become the bogged down adult witnessing not only the loss of innocence in imagination, but also the burden of an imposed identity. What is left is a quagmire of opinions, voices, disagreements, all swarming to remove the identity one lives, the history one lives. Responding to this, these artists lay before the viewer both history lived and inherited, as evidence of how that history, that postcard from the moment effects the artist and becomes the inspiration behind the work. This exhibition is on view May 23 - June 27, 2025.

Milton Bowens is an artist and a preservationist of both the history and the present of African Americans. Often using paraphernalia from archives of American history he reminds the viewer, informs the viewer of the treatment, history and experience of people enslaved in the U.S. His focus looks at the beginnings and explores how they still effect the present. Laetitia Adam Rabel exposes her reality as a woman in America, and how her race and ancestry mark her, and give her the ability to navigate, as best as she can, the labyrinth that is modern society. Deeply feminine her works bring forth and shine on her experiences with her life, her body and her artistic voice. Oluwatomisin Olabode based in Lagos, often toys with ideas of the grotesque, not only in his artistic voice, but also in his subject matter. Over stylized subjects confront the viewer usually in a one dimensional depiction, suggesting that the social eye can only perceive what is on the surface.

The art world is overflowing with rules and ideas of what is art, often from the perspective of the financial, which typically results in trends on what is unique, new, and catchy. Naturally this is fine, but it can overlook artists responding from an internal that cannot be limited or ignored by ‘market demand.’ Artists as the above make works that resonate with a myriad of shared aspects of the human condition - where the exact depictions may be different, they all do speak on being human with both lived and inherited history and how we all carry that weight.

New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 is a photographic series depicting young men from Miami's creative community on road trips across Florida, where overlooked landscapes set the stage for scenes of camaraderie and exploration.

Spring, a work from the series, debuted as Aronson's first public art installation and became the first city commission in Miami Beach history to win both the People's Choice Award and the Juror's Prize. To celebrate, Aronson created limited edition silk prints of Spring—a gesture toward a more playful, open vision of masculinity. Each edition includes a signed certificate of authenticity, a signed postcard, and a custom enclosure designed to sit neatly on a bookshelf.

About the artist: Josh Aronson (American, b. 1994, Toronto, Canada) is an artist based in Miami, Florida. His work explores masculinity in the American South through tableaux photographs that blend history, autobiography, and fiction. Drawing from Southern Gothic traditions and documentary archives, Aronson reimagines portrayals of young men in the region, emphasizing tenderness, camaraderie, and self-discovery.

Modell’s new Galaxy Collection illustrates the movement and luminosity of the universe. The artist’s vision of celestial waterfalls and cosmic butterflies are interpreted throughout the collection which includes Wall Art, Sculptural Objects and LED Lighting. Modell specializes in hand-applied glass assemblages on three-dimensional surfaces, developed through her exploration of contemporary glass techniques.

Inspired by the reflections of the night sky, Modell’s creations combine saturated ombre color palettes with mirrored surfaces and Swarovski crystals to visually expand dimension. Icy star glass colors layered with clear and frosty hues are the focus of this new body of work. Refracted light, dazzling hues and contemporary designs transport the viewer through an imagined starry sky.
