Zimbabwean art, culture, identity, and heritage take center stage this September with Tsika Dzedu: Zimbabwe National Exhibition & Competition 2026, an important new platform bringing artists and the broader cultural community together at the Artgal Zim Center in Domboshava.

Taking place from September 8–12, 2026, Tsika Dzedu will culminate in a vernissage and awards ceremony on September 12, celebrating the artists and creative voices participating in this year’s national exhibition and competition.

Following the main event, the selected artworks will remain on exhibition at the Artgal Zim Center for an additional three weeks, providing audiences with an extended opportunity to experience the work beyond the opening celebrations.

Celebrating Zimbabwean Culture

Tsika Dzedu centers on themes of culture, identity, heritage, and the traditions that continue to shape Zimbabwe. The exhibition provides artists with a platform to explore the many dimensions of Zimbabwean cultural experience while presenting their work to audiences both locally and internationally.

With the Artgal Zim Center serving as its physical cultural and educational base, the exhibition reflects Artgal’s broader mission of creating opportunities for Zimbabwean artists, expanding access to their work, and strengthening connections between local artistic production and the international art community.

The nation’s leading arts competition for young artists, YoungArts, is now accepting applications through October 14, 2022. Accomplished artists ages 15-18 or in grades 10–12 are encouraged to apply online at youngarts.org/apply. All YoungArts award winners will receive financial awards of up to $10,000, opportunities to work with leading artists and will become eligible for exclusive creative and professional development support throughout their careers.

 

Applications are adjudicated through a rigorous blind process by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists. YoungArts 2023 award winners will be announced in December 2022. More details regarding National YoungArts Week, other 2023 programs and guest artists will be announced at a later date.

It showed me the power in creating community within the arts and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.”

 

HOW TO APPLY

The YoungArts award competition is open to artists (1) between the ages of 15–18 or in high school grades 10–12 (as of December 1, 2022) (2) that are United States citizens, permanent residents or legally able to receive taxable income in the U.S. and (3) that demonstrate excellence in Classical Music, Dance, Design Arts, Film, Jazz, Photography, Theater, Visual Arts, Voice or Writing.

The application deadline is October 14, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET (8:59 p.m. PT).

DESIGNATIONS & AWARDS

YoungArts awards are given in three categories: Finalist, Honorable Mention and Merit. YoungArts award winners will have the chance to learn from notable artists such as Debbie Allen, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Germane Barnes, Wynton Marsalis, Salman Rushdie and Mickalene Thomas through expanded online and in-person programs. Award winners will also become eligible for exclusive creative and professional development support throughout their careers. Note that all winners are eligible for cash awards from $100 to $10,000.

Studio 18 in the Pines is seeking visual artists that create works that explore the concept of duality. We experience this world as a duality, a contrast between two concepts or two aspects of reality.

Day and Night. Life and Death. Order or Chaos. Good and Evil. Me and my Shadow. The need to lead a high octane, high impact life; while also craving the simple life. Messages in this society that you must be true to yourself but then you must do it in the way that others see fit. Can these two worlds co-exist, or are they distinct and contrasted with one another? Must we make a choice, or can we make them work in harmony?

We are looking for artistic works that explore these questions and the experience of duality.

The Hopper Prize is now accepting entries for their Fall 2020 artist grants. They are offering 5 grants in the amount of $1,000 USD. This is an international open call. All media is eligible. Grant submissions will be juried by Christine Koppes, Curator & Director of Public Programs, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and Jade Powers, Assistant Curator, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. This open call provides each artist with a direct path to get their work in front of these forward thinking exhibition makers. In addition to grants, 30 artists will be selected for a shortlist. Call for Artists: The Hopper Prize Grant

 

The Hopper Prize is offering 5 individual artist grants in the amount of $1,000 USD awarded through an open call art competition juried by leading contemporary curators.

"The Hopper Prize was established in order to increase the recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. Our aim is to advance artists’ careers by providing them with unrestricted financial support that is coupled with a platform for increased visibility. We accept submissions twice a year via an open call, and we are currently accepting submissions for the Fall 2020 grant cycle."

Grant awards are unrestricted and may be used any way the recipients choose.

When submitting your work, you will have the option to opt-in to be considered for possible Instagram features @hopperprize, currently reaching an audience of over 46K. Editors will be featuring select submissions on a rolling basis prior to the application deadline.

 

"In addition to grant awards, our shortlist, and Instagram reach, we will be providing an additional platform for exposure via our online Journal Insights Into Contemporary Art. We launched this digital publication to give artists a new channel to amplify their voice while providing an in-depth look at their work, practice, and background. Eligibility

The Hopper Prize is open to all artists age 18 and older working in any media. There are no restrictions on genre, subject matter, or media. We welcome entries in all media. Buildings bring shape and urban design to the neighborhoods in our towns, cities and throughout the countryside in rural communities. We appreciate the visual design elements and the functionality of architecture in all its structures, shapes and forms. The Engage Art Contest is an online juried competition for original visual art, music video, film and performing arts. $100,000 total cash prizes. The topic is the Spiritual Battle described in Ephesians 6:10-20 and related verses. The current contest is open to people 18 or older who live in North America. We invite everyone - novice to professional - to submit original work. Categories: Visual Art, Music Video, Film, Performing Arts. Ten (10) winners in each category will receive cash prizes. Each artist may enter two entries in each category for free; the third and subsequent entries in each category will cost $125/entry. Two paintings per artist may be entered, digital entries only. 
$35 for up to two entries, payable thru PayPal.

Dean Mitchell will be the juror for both show acceptance and awards. 

Dean L. Mitchell was born 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and reared in Quincy, Florida.  He is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio.  Mitchell is well known for his figurative works, landscapes and still lifes.  In addition to watercolors, he is accomplished in other mediums, including egg temperas, oils, acrylics and pastels.

His art can be found in corporate and museum collections across the country, including: Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri; Mississippi Museum of Art, Jackson, Mississippi; Saint Louis Art Museum, Saint Louis, Missouri; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri; Beach Museum of Art, Manhattan, Kansas; The Autry National Center, Los Angeles; The Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, Arkansas; Gadsden Art Center Quincy, Florida; Canton Museum of Art, Canton, Ohio and the Library of Congress.

There are no size restrictions or shipping of entries but entries can NOT have been accepted in any other ISAP show.  Images can already be sold but you are encouraged to put a price on your work. This work must conform to the concept of being 80% acrylic on any surface. It is understood that the work is subject to the conditions of the show and reproduction will be archived on the ISAP website. No refunds. Pay attention to directions and digital requirements. No work completed in workshops or classes by any instructor PLEASE! Inappropriate subject matter may result in non-acceptance by either ISAP or the juror or both. All results are final.
