Palm Beach County (August 30, 2021)- Hispanic Heritage Month at The Box Gallery will be celebrated with eye opening exhibition spotlighting the delicate and vulnerable eco-system of Colombia and a series of presentations, an art salon celebrating works by artists representing the Latin America, workshops, book readings and much more throughout the next two months for all to enjoy.  

The Box Gallery, located at 811 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, has partnered with Latin American Arte in a joint effort to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month by presenting Environment Work, an international exchange exhibition of paintings by Colombian artist Moisés Morales Duque, in West Palm Beach. The first of five in a series events, the exhibit opens with a reception on September 25, 2021 from 7-9 PM and continues though October 30, 2021.

The national health authorities have identified this segment of the population to be among the most vulnerable to COVID-19. This will help to ensure everyone can get the items they need in a less-crowded environment. We will be closing the gallery at 5 PM to allow our employees time to sanitize the exhibition space. We will remain open for curbside pickup during that time.

Jim Hunter's whimsical mobiles set atop colorful oil drums placed in a Stonehenge design, questions the role of time and movement. The design and placement plays a significant role highlighting the urgency of environmental remediation.

Curator Spotlight: The Unstoppable Rolando Chang Barrero

Rolando Chang Barrero is an American painter, curator, gallerist, filmmaker, performance artist, activist and arts advocate. Born in Coconut Grove, Florida and currently resides in West Palm Beach, Florida. Barrero received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 1990. 

EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE A PERSON MAKES A BIG impact. Five years ago, that person arrived in Palm Beach County and his activism, leadership and energy ripple through the arts community continuously. After he opened his studio in Boynton Beach, Barrero helped to initiate the Boynton Beach Arts District. 

Shortly thereafter with fellow artist Craig McInnis, they launched Art Synergy PBC, exhibiting local artists at the Palm Beach and Boca Fine Art Shows. Next he opened his eponymous gallery on Lucerne Avenue in Lake Worth and then launched his fourth art endeavor The Box Gallery with 4,000 square feet of exhibition space on Belvedere Road.

The Box Gallery calls for work in all media and art projects to be realized during February 2018. The call is open to all Florida artists. Individual artworks in all media will be considered including collaborations, Performance, music, and time based media.

All work must be gallery ready.

THE FOCUS

We are especially interested in artwork and art projects that:

* engage with people, communities or institutions in West Palm Beach in creation of the work and includes “I Love West Palm Beach” in some manner.

* use media / digital technology in an inventive, collaborative way.

* Stickers, Posters, Graphic works that can be easily reproduced.

The main focus of the exhibition is on individual and collaborative art in all media. 

We especially welcome proposals that are multidisciplinary and combine practices of visual, sound or performing arts.

The location for most of the projects are to be produced and installed at The Box Gallery in West Palm Beach ( if needed we will make every effort to secure other location for site specific work). Although professionally framed and presentation of proposal must be made available for exhibition at The Box Gallery.

Deadline for proposals: Submit your proposal by January 15, 2018.
