This Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrate the cultures, identities, and artistic traditions that shape Latin American art through Wifredo Lam’s Legacy at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.
Born in Cuba in 1902 to a Chinese immigrant father and Afro-Cuban mother, Wifredo Lam became a groundbreaking transnational artist whose work brought together Surrealism, Afro-Cuban traditions, African identity, and the tropical landscape.
Featuring works drawn exclusively from the Museum’s collection, the exhibition explores Lam’s lasting influence on generations of Cuban and Latin American artists, including José Bedia, Ana Mendieta, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Kcho, Los Carpinteros, and others.
