Saturday, February 14th from 12:00 – 1:30pm NSU Art Museum presents Creativity Exploration: Sweet Sculptures. Inspired by Naomi Peterson’s sculptures of cake, bon bons, and confections, create your own sculptures to add some sweetness to your life. RSVP HERE.

Creativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. Studies have shown that 45 minutes of creative activity a day reduces stress and offers mental clarity and relaxation. In addition to producing a sense of well-being, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. The workshop is led by educator Lark Keeler, a specialist in mindfulness education.

Experience an Artist Workshop & a Round Table Talk at The Contemporary Art Modern Project (CAMP Gallery) where guests can tour the exhibition and enjoy one of many in-gallery conversations and workshops taking place during the gallery’s annual fiber show, Don’t Be Absurd. Featuring a round table talk featuring Emily Peters, Rebecca White & Kátia Bandeira.

As a part of the latest edition of the gallery’s annual fiber show, Don’t Be Absurd, CAMP is hosting their second round table talk with Emily Peters, Rebecca White & Kátia Bandeira. Art lovers and collectors are invited to enjoy an insightful discussion involving the artist’s creative practice and process interpreting this year’s theme into their pieces. About Rebecca White (b. 1985, American)

Rebecca White works in diverse media, including painting, fiber, and participatory / interactive works; the conceptual underpinnings of her practice frequently connect to mythology, energy work, and esoteric notions such as alchemy and imagined languages. Her work often speaks to issues that have societal relevance, centering the impact these occurrences have on our collective human spirit. She frequently incorporates found natural materials, such as bones, wild clay, branches, into her artworks and installations.

After a brief guided free movement exploration to open the body’s energies, we welcome you to make marks using your choice of graphite or marker on paper, or simple textile manipulations like ripping, scrunching, layering or folding, or earth pigments on textiles using a mineral pigment and soybean ink ‘mud’.With soundscapes and our intuition as our guides, we’ll make marks and then rest deeply in a live sound immersion featuring wind gong, crystal singing pyramid, wayunki and gentle shakers.

Please bring any textiles or fibers you would like to repurpose, along with, scissors, brushes, sponges or stamps, and a yoga mat or blanket for the sound bath.

About Kátia Bandeira (b. 1968, Brazilian)
Kátia Bandeira de Mello is a poet, fiction writer and visual artist born in Rio de Janeiro. Her figurative piece is connected to the Theater of the Absurd and inspired by Franz Kafka’s A Hunger Artist short story as well as elements taken from the texts of Beckett, Camus, Beauvoir and Saramago. The prevalent issue of aesthetics and hedonism in Miami, and the world at large contrasts with the food crisis, the hunger versus obesity paradox that assails the twenty first century in an unprecedented wave.

The Contemporary Art Modern Project’s 7th Edition of Women Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse: Don’t be Absurd. The exhibition opened on Friday, Oct.17 with an artist and collector preview. Over 100 years ago Søren Aabye Kierkegaard set the stage for society to look beyond one’s own concerns with the start of Existentialism. Absurdism emerges after the Second World War as the world grappled with the sense of the meaninglessness of life due to an overwhelming indifference for humanity and the suffering of others. For this year’s edition of: Women Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse, and Guests: Don’t Be Absurd, the exploration of Absurdism is done through the hands of fiber artists. Artists were asked to refer to works by: Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Simone De Beauvoir, Samuel Beckett, and Jose Saramago and interpret the writings into circular fiber responses. This exhibition is on view October 17 — December 20, 2025. The run of the exhibition will include several in-gallery art talks, workshops and conversations about fiber art with both artists and curators. CAMP Gallery is located in North Miami at 791-793 NE 125 Street in Miami, Florida 33161. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11am – 5pm. The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and Exhibition Hall in Pembroke Pines presents Kids’ Corner on Saturday, October 5th from 12 noon – 1pm. Join The Frank every month for storytime! The Frank art gallery in Pembroke Pines presents New Industry: Contemporary Visions of the Industrial, an exhibition focused on industrial aesthetic, blurring the lines between fine art, mechanical design and fabrication while also challenging traditional artmaking materials and techniques. New Industry is on display from August 29th through October 26th, 2019.

The public is invited to the New Industry opening reception on Thursday, August 29th from 6-9pm. Guests will be treated to a performance by top Miami rap artist and Pembroke Pines native, Sam Stan. Admission is free.

Curated by The Frank’s Chief Curator Joshua Carden, the new exhibition features the work of artists Nestor Arenas, Yves Gabriel, Kx2, Devora Perez and Norman Silva along with a video piece by Layne Hinton and Chris Foster. Each of the artists employ a minimalist tendency while engaging the viewer with work grounded in industrialization, gentrification and/or the notion of change through industrial materials.

“Oftentimes, in urban environments, the viewer is met with a combination of aesthetics and materials. New Industry seeks to contextualize this industrial aesthetic as an artistic result of urbanization,” said Carden. “We are excited to showcase the unique work that these artists have created and hope that this compelling exhibition leaves visitors with a new perspective on the world around them.”

In The Frank’s Third Space Gallery, which specifically focuses on supporting non-profit organizations, educational partners, underrepresented populations and community advocacy groups, an exhibition featuring artwork by students of Fletcher Art & Cultural Center in Pembroke Pines will be on display. Fletcher Art & Cultural Center provides year-round art, piano, guitar and drama classes for children and adults for all skill levels. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens presents WEAVE: a twilight parade

Saturday, August 10th from 7-11pm Processional Arts Workshop (PAW) returns to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, continuing an annual tradition of community-built immersive art that began with WHIRL in 2016. This year’s lantern parade, entitled WEAVE, explores the individual patterns, motifs, and textures that come together to create Vizcaya. All are invited to enjoy the WEAVE Twilight Parade & Block Party at Vizcaya. For tickets and more information, RSVP here.

One hundred years ago, Vizcaya’s owner James Deering and artistic director Paul Chalfin took multiple journeys to Europe to create Vizcaya’s immersive environment, assembling a collection of artifacts and architectural details that reflected many cultures and time periods. WEAVE brings these threads together in a participatory procession of lanterns, sounds, and projections created and performed by locals.

The performance will be built in a week-long series of public workshops. These are a hands-on opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to work closely with PAW artists Sophia Michahelles and Alex Kahn. Throughout the week, participants will create lanterns inspired and informed by Vizcaya’s rich history, guided by Michahelles and Kahn on concept and techniques, and collaborate with other participants on all aspects of production. Those who wish will also have the opportunity to perform in the culminating twilight procession.
