The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery in Pembroke Pines Presents Two New Art Exhibitions, ‘Habitar una nube’ and ‘Me pongo el sol al hombro y el mundo es amarillo‘

The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery in Pembroke Pines presents two new concurrent solo exhibitions, which opened on Thursday, January 29, 2026, offering audiences distinct yet resonant contemporary perspectives through immersive installation, video, and material-driven practices. ‘Habitar una nube’, (To Inhabit a Cloud), a solo exhibition by Argentine artist Adrián Sosa, and ‘Me pongo el sol al hombro y el mundo es amarillo‘ (I Carry the Sun on My Shoulder and the World Turns Yellow), a large-scale installation by multidisciplinary artist Edison Peñafiel. Together, these exhibitions create a compelling dialogue around labor, memory, movement, and embodied experience—inviting visitors to navigate space, time, and perception through physical encounter. On view January 29th through April 11th, 2026.

Art lovers and the community are warmly invited to attend the Opening Reception for both exhibitions on Thursday, January 29th from 6–9pm at The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery. This event is free & open to the public, offering an opportunity to experience both exhibitions in a shared moment of exploration and conversation. In Habitar una nube (“To Inhabit a Cloud”), Sosa draws from the rural landscapes and labor histories of Tucumán, Argentina, where smoke, dust, and suspended matter shape everyday life. Through video, sculptural elements, and performative action, the exhibition is grounded in material presence and lived experience, approaching labor as a bodily condition rather than a symbolic subject. The works unfold through gesture, repetition, and duration, creating an atmosphere of density and suspension. The cloud functions not as metaphor, but as environment—something inhabited, breathed, and endured. Viewers are invited into a phenomenological encounter with territory, memory, and the body as they register through time and material. Ortis Gallery in partnership with Ceibo Gallery in collaboration with Pabellón 4 Arte Contemporáneo and Fulana Galería.

Adrián Sosa

Adrián Sosa (ARG, 1994) was born in Monteros, Tucumán, Argentina, where he lives and works. He holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán and has completed advanced studies in cultural management and artist programs at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. His practice, developed since 2017, has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Premio Braque (2023), which supported a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Sosa has presented solo exhibitions in Argentina and participated in exhibitions and fairs in Argentina, France, and Peru, including Pinta PArC Lima. His work has been featured in national salons and performance festivals, and is held in public and private collections in Argentina and Brazil. Rooted in family history and rural labor traditions, his work engages territory, materiality, and embodied memory as forms of lived knowledge.

In Edison Peñafiel’s Me pongo el sol al hombro y el mundo es amarillo (I Carry the Sun on My Shoulder and the World Turns Yellow), the exhibition features a large-scale installation composed of suspended painted curtains that shape the gallery into a space of movement, pause, and shifting perspective. As visitors walk through the work, scenes unfold gradually—figures resting, departing, and lingering in moments of transition. Rather than offering a single point of view, the installation encourages viewers to slow down, wander, and experience the work through their own movement. Color, scale, and material create a rhythmic environment that invites reflection on presence, memory, and the experience of carrying forward. *Made possible with support from the Broward County Cultural Division.

Edison Peñafiel (b. 1985, Guayaquil, Ecuador) is a multidisciplinary artist whose large-scale installations explore themes of movement, power, memory, and perception. After immigrating to the United States in 2002, his work has increasingly reflected on the emotional and historical conditions that shape contemporary life. Peñafiel’s installations combine painting, sculpture, video, and sound, often drawing from German Expressionism and cinematic language to create psychologically charged environments. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Coral Springs Museum of Art, Sabrina Amrani Gallery, and the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo 2 de Mayo (CA2M) in Madrid. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including a VIA Art Fund Production Grant, the Knight Foundation Award and Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, the Ellies Creator Award, and the Premio ARCO Comunidad de Madrid. His work is held in the collections of Oolite Arts, Elsewhere Museum, and CA2M.

Kurt Pio’s Incredible Diamond Art

 

Renowned Gem Artist Kurt Pio is based out of Cape Town, South Africa, his artwork is eclectic, bohemian, and thought provoking.

He graduated from Cape Peninsula University of Technology with a national diploma in Interior Design. His “Diamond” series is filled with pieces as beautiful and rare as the gems themselves. With his background in interior design, he has an adept ability to paint works of art that can easily fit in regardless of the environment.

Anne Duk Hee Jordan creates enveloping environments, using video, installation, sound and kinetic objects, that draw visitors into a tactile conversation with natural phenomena, weather, technology and art. Experience the Work of S. Florida Contemporary Artist Dana Donaty

South Florida contemporary artist Dana Donaty is widely recognized for her provocative canvases with unusual narrative, her unmistakable satirical lexicon is a perfect collision of reality and fantasy, outlandish burlesque, psychological flirtation and a super charged palette that is like a party about to get thoroughly out of control. She has completed many award winning public art projects, featured in over 50 national and international publications. Donaty has garnered multiple awards within the design industry, and is sought after to create unique commissions for high profile residential and commercial projects.

She has been working on restoring her famous 'Observations' mural in Delray Beach, which shows a man in the Everglades with binoculars and a camera surrounded by native birds, flora and fauna. It has become a landmark in Delray Beach, since 2007. The magnificent panoramic scene along the outside of the Delray Camera Shop is being restored by the artist at Arts Warehouse through a Residency Exchange program, and will soon be installed on the Camera Shop’s new location.

Dana has been given studio space to work from, and it’s open to the public to view at the Arts Warehouse along with community programming, open studio hours, First Friday Art Walk events and Workshops. Arts Warehouse is located at 313 NE 3rd Street in Delray Beach, Florida 33444.

The artist also co-curated the group exhibition 'Pink' at Arts Warehouse, which was on view January 6th - February 25, 2023. The exhibition explored the cultural narrative of color, curated by guest curators and exhibiting artists Dana Donaty & Renee Phillips. Curator Maritza @maritzatheartjunkie with Mad Arts Gallery invites artists to participate in the exhibition “Step into the Street” where we bring the creativity, passion, and vibe found in the city streets into the gallery of Mad Arts.

In this interactive exhibition, street artists, musicians and performers showcase their work and style while the audience becomes part of the scene as they walk through the urban streetscape reimagined inside the gallery.

We are open to bold, edgy, expressive work that leads to an interactive experience that transports the viewer to another space where rules are made to be broken and creative impulses dominate.

Submission Criteria

We are looking for talented street artists to bring their unique form of self-expression to the Mad Arts Gallery.

With the use of tags, throw-ups, slaps and blockbusters created throughout the gallery, we aim to have the audience feel the ‘street’ come alive.


Seeking

2D canvas art, 3D art, photography of street scene including graffiti, films of graffiti, interactive art, painting on found objects, sculptures and installation art.

• Artistic media include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, stickers, video, mixed media, performance art and more.
• Entry must be original work of art completed within the last 5 years.
• Up to 5 images per artist should be submitted in JPG 300 dpi.
• Please include: the artist’s name, title of the work, medium, dimensions, and price.
• Digital media and video submissions are limited to 15 minutes in duration.
• Selected 2D work must be gallery wrapped or framed, and wired for hanging.
• Prefer selected large installations and murals to be flexible in terms of location.
• 3D work must be assembled in a stable and professional manner for pedestal or floor display.
• Include an artist bio no more than 150 words.
• List any social media links, website URL, and hashtags used.

Common Space, which runs from Oct. 20, 2021 – Jan. 23, 2022, has transformed Oolite Arts’ gallery into its own work of art. Common Space features works by Bethany Collins, Rafael Domenech, GeoVanna Gonzalez, Diego Gutierrez,Paloma Izquierdo, Ernesto Oroza, Sarah Sze, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Rafael Vargas Bernard and Tomas Vu.

Common Space features ten international artists from New York, Chicago and Miami that dismantle and re-envision social space as a site of artistic production. Architecture, cartography, and language emerge as subjects and methods to respond to the distribution of space as well as the production of identity, meaning, and power therein. Breaking with the notion of a gallery as a static presentation, the exhibition bridges the gallery with studios and common rooms at Oolite Arts and integrates residency and visiting artist cultures. Site-specific installations and activations throughout the duration of the exhibition will provide prompts for viewer participation and engagement.Vu.
