73rd Annual Gilpin County Arts Association Show June 6th through August 1st 2020 Juried Exhibition Prospectus The Gilpin County Arts Association (GCAA) hosted its first juried show in 1948 and is the longest continuously running juried show in Colorado. We invite artists to be a part of this historic event in beautiful Central City, Colorado.
Artists are encouraged (but not required) to join Gilpin County Arts Association (GCAA). Benefits of membership include • Membership provides a discounted entry fee for the juried show • Membership allows you to exhibit concurrently in the Members’ Gallery whether or not you are accepted into the juried show • Exhibiting in the Members’ gallery allows you to exhibit more of your work • Membership allows you to participate in the Members Only show following the juried show from August 15th - September 18th • Membership provides a 10% discount on all items purchased in the gallery. • Membership provides funds to support the K-12 art program for Gilpin County school students • Members receive email updates from GCAA with news about our events, artists, and shows
Eligibility for the 2020 73rd Annual Juried Art Show: Open to artists in all 50 states.
Only original works completed by the artist within the last 3 years are eligible. Work previously shown in GCAA Galleries, work from kits, or work executed in a class or workshop is not eligible. Paintings must be original, and if copied, only from photographs taken by the artist. All jewelry entries must be at least 75% handmade by the artist. Entries in any media can be no larger than 48” in the longest dimension, and 3D pieces must be easily managed by 2 people.
Awards: Over $3000 in cash prizes including $500 Best of Show will be awarded.

Submitting Entries for the 2020 Juried Show You must submit entries online through Café at https://artist.callforentry.org NOTE: The Gilpin County Arts Association no longer accepts mailed or website entries. All entries must be done through Café’ only. This is an artist’s call for entry site. We suggest you familiarize yourself with their entry procedure prior to entering to make the process easier for you. Size all images correctly before entering.
Entry Images: Images must be jpeg files 72 dpi, 1200 pixels at the longest dimension and under 900K. Label image files using the first 3 letters of your last name + first initial of first name, and # of artwork, e.g.: Tom Jones = jont-101, jont-102, etc. Artists are encouraged to keep high resolution images (300 dpi) for their own use and artists may be asked to provide those for publicity purposes. The artist grants permission for any accepted images to be used for publicity purposes by GCAA.
Number of Entries:
Each 2D artist and photographer may submit up to three entries. Each 3D, fiber, and jewelry artist may submit up to 6 entries, with the exception of wall pieces which have a three entry limit. A second view of an entry is permissible and optional. A set in one photo is considered one entry.
The entry fee is $40 for current members of GCAA and $50 for non-members. Membership forms are available online at gilpinarts.org. Membership must be paid prior to entering the Juried Show to receive the discount. This may be done through our website WWW.GILPINARTS.ORG
Presentation:
All 2D work must be delivered framed and ready to hang. 48 inches maximum dimension for any work. Any wall art must have a wire hanging system installed no saw tooth hangers. Fiber pieces must have a sleeve or provide hanging system. Framing must meet gallery quality standards; no damaged frames will be accepted. Gallery wrapped canvases are acceptable if the edges are painted. The artist must give approval for the gallery to repair any work damaged during shipping at the artist’s expense. Pedestals will be provided, but if your piece requires a special mount, one must be supplied with the artwork.
Show Tags: On the back of each 2D or bottom of each 3D piece clearly mark your name, title, price, ID # (e.g. “Tom Jones, My Clever Title, $300.00, jont-101”) email address and phone number.
Shipping Work:
Shipped paintings via USPS should be addressed to Gilpin County Arts Association PO Box 98 Central City, CO, 80427. UPS or FedEx ship to 117 Eureka street Central City CO 80427 Shipped work must arrive NO LATER than May 31st!!! If you will need to have your unsold artwork shipped back at the end of the show please include a prepaid FedEx or UPS label with your shipment. Via postal service make arrangements with the gallery manager to return these items. This can be paid for via phone.
Artists are encouraged to purchase shipping insurance. GCAA is not liable for any damage during shipping. The artist agrees to pay for any reframing due to damaged work during shipping. Sales: All work must be for sale and remain on display for the duration of the show (unless sold) and will be insured while in the gallery for the entirety of the show. GCAA will take a 40% commission on all work sold and artists will receive 60% of the retail price. Artists will be paid for sales within 40 days of the end of show. Commissions from sales completed after the show that were initiated during the exhibit are expected to be paid by the artist to the GCAA.
Annual Members’ Show 2020: Following the Juried Show is a GCAA Members’ only show. This show is not juried.
Saturday, August 1st through Monday, August 10th artists may drop off work for Members’ Show and pick up any unsold items from the Juried Show. If an artist so chooses to keep pieces from the Juried Show in the Members’ Show, they may make arrangements with the gallery manager or gallery assistant to transfer the items.
Saturday, August 15th GCAA Members’ show opening is from 5:00 to 8:00
The Members’ show will run from August 15th to Friday, September 18th
Art pick up for the Members’ show will be:
Friday, September 18th through Tuesday, September 22nd from 11:00 am to 4:00pm members are to pick up unsold work from GCAA Members’ show.
Liability: the utmost care will be taken in the handling of all artwork. Artwork is insured while at the gallery.
