A Must-See in the Miami Design District, Urs Fischer: Bus Stop, 2017 - located at the Paradise Plaza Garage, 176 NE 41st Street in Miami, Florida 33137. Situated in the Miami Design District sits a new fountain by the artist Urs Fischer. Its backdrop is a re-creation of a Miami Beach bus stop with all its signage and advertisements missing. In its midst, on the bench, is a skeleton, lying on its back, inhabiting this artificial sphere of public space. A constant trickle of water lands on its head and forms a pool below. The skeleton figure is of no particular gender or age. It serves as a representation of anyone.

City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places Program Honors Women’s History Month with Unveiling of Christina Pettersson’s She Spoke for the Birds

The City expands its celebrated public art collection with a new permanent mural exploring South Florida Everglades

Today, the City of Miami Beach is pleased to announce the unveiling of She Spoke for the Birds, a new permanent mural by Christina Pettersson honoring Marjory Stoneman Douglas at her namesake park. Selected by the Art in Public Places Committee (AIPP), the work commemorates Douglas’s enduring contributions to South Florida and her lifelong advocacy for the Everglades.

The unveiling will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Park. The event will include guests from Friends of the Everglades — the organization Douglas founded — as well as members of the Miami Beach Commission for Women.

She Spoke for the Birds is the first of two permanent works by a woman artist to be installed by the City’s AIPP Program during Women’s History Month. It will be followed by the unveiling of BirdHouse, a major new sculpture by Michele Oka Doner in Bayshore Park.

“Miami Beach continues to lead the way in public art. We celebrate the unveiling of this mural during Women's History Month in a park that honors the legacy of Marjory Stoneman Douglas through the vision of another talented woman artist, Christina Pettersson,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner.

Installed on the exterior wall of one of the park’s facilities and composed of concrete vinyl, the mural depicts Douglas immersed in the Florida Everglades — the habitat she spent her life protecting. A Miami native, Pettersson has spent decades exploring the Everglades, and her multidisciplinary practice examines Florida’s hidden histories and endangered landscapes.

Rooted in public engagement and collaboration, her work invites audiences to connect more deeply with the natural and cultural narratives of their own communities.

“It has been an honor to create this mural celebrating Marjory Stoneman Douglas, whose life’s work made it possible for generations to experience the Everglades,” said Christina Pettersson. “I am thrilled to unveil this mural to the Miami Beach community and see it integrated into a site of play, nature, and wonder for people of all ages.”

With She Spoke for the Birds, Pettersson joins the AIPP’s distinguished permanent public art collection, which includes works by artists including, Franz Ackermann, Farah Al Qasimi, Sanford Biggers, Amoako Boafo, Elmgreen & Dragset, Anneke Eussen, FriendsWithYou, Bill Fontana, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Dan Graham, Ellen Harvey, Joseph Kosuth, Roy Lichtenstein, Sarah Morris, Ebony G. Public Art in the Miami Design District | Marc Newson DASH Fence (2007)

 

A Must-See in the Miami Design District, Marc Newson's DASH Fence (2007) located at 4001 NE 2nd Avenue - Miami, FL 33137. The DASH Fence by designer Marc Newson is a 100-ft fence installation at the Design & Architecture High School (DASH), creating a compelling environmental structure in the heart of the Miami Design District. Based conceptually on waves, the design consists of a thin metal frame of 400 vertical fins of varying depths that create a series of changing patterns. The appearance of the fence shifts based on point of view—up close, the fence allows a full view into and out from the DASH courtyard. However, from a distance, the surface becomes fully opaque and appears to undulate as the viewer passes by.

The City of Dania Beach is extremely excited to unveil a stunning Love Art Sculpture by artist Lloyd Goradesky as we kick off Valentine’s Day weekend! Let Love Guide Your Way is a celebration of kindness and love encouraging compassion, consideration, and tolerance for everyone.

The Art is an example of Art & Design merging with Engineering & Science. The artist uses a weathervane which is shaped in the form of Cupid’s Arrow. The heart - shaped arrow rotates 180 degrees which is used to not only measure wind but also as a metaphoric expression to describe people who change their views frequently. “In a chaotic world, when faced with a dilemma, let love guide your way. ”

In support of the City’s logo “Sea it, Live it, LOVE IT,” this amazing sculpture will continue to make our City Hall campus a destination for art and entertainment, selfies and photographs. Join us for a truly magical evening.

Public Art Call to Artists: Carnival Cruises Port Miami

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and PortMiami partnered with Lemartec Design Build Team, inclusive of Architect of Record and Design Team Lead Perez and Perez Architects Planners, Carnival Cruise Lines with their design consultant Berenblum Busch Architects and others, request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the renovation and new construction project at Terminal F, the new home of Carnival Cruise Lines. The selected artist(s) will design unique artwork(s) that will contribute to the identity of this facility and engage employees, visitors and passers-by in unexpected and delightful ways. Miami-based Artist Adam Sinai is a Multidisciplinary Visual Artist with a Passion for Graffiti & Murals

Miami graffiti artist Adam Sinai is an American-Israeli multidisciplinary artist, he was born in North Miami Beach, Florida and grew up in the city of Tel Aviv, Israel. Adam is an internationally known graffiti artist, a well-established graphic designer and a motion graphics artist. He gets his unique look on things from the art world and the urban environment. The artist holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Computer Graphics degree from Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Israel.

The artist is currently living and working in South Florida, his art is extremely versatile and unique, from graphic design projects, graffiti installations, paintings on canvas to large-scale murals, which he designs and creates for residential and commercial projects from start to finish. One of our favorite murals of Adam's is located in The Park at Wynwood, a local spot in the Wynwood Arts District offering cocktails, food truck eats, and live music.

The artist aims to create a greater impression and appreciation for art and imagery, creating a public visual that allows viewers to experience a different perspective of their surroundings. Acclaimed public artist Lloyd Goradesky has been chosen along with 8 additional art professionals for The 2019 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium. This exciting public art group showcase was created by the Boynton Beach Arts Commission and produced by the City of Boynton Beach through its Art in Public Places program. The International Kinetic Art Exhibit & Symposium was created by the Boynton Beach Arts Commission to celebrate art in motion.

Public Artist Lloyd Goradesky

The outdoor exhibit brings meaningful and playful public art by prominent South Florida artist Lloyd Goradesky, connecting the public to one-of-a-kind visual experiences. Goradesky’s projects use the power of art to create social interaction and dialogue using innovative technology combined with his unique use of materials, as well as incorporating natural elements within the environment such as sunlight, wind, rain, etc., to amplify the design or effect of a public art piece.

The selected kinetic artworks will be on exhibit along S. Seacrest Boulevard and E. Ocean Avenue in Boynton Beach, Florida for one year. Many of the artworks will be powered by wind, with one powered by solar and another by human interaction. The kinetic art committee deliberated on numerous submissions and made their final selection of only eight artists; the arts commission approved the committee’s recommendations and the chosen public artworks will be installed during the first two weeks of October 2018.

Lloyd Goradesky was born and raised in South Florida with a unique background in art, business and design. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He resides in Hollywood, Florida where he lives and works. He is widely recognized for his iconic public art projects that allow the community to experience art in their daily life, thereby creating a greater sense of place and identity.

Lloyd Goradesky is a perfect example of an artist who creates work directly from his inner emotions and instincts, conveying a powerful and positive message for viewers drawing his inspiration from nature and the environment. “The purpose of this project is to celebrate public art in motion, Lloyd’s piece ‘Love Will Guide Your Way’ truly exemplified this with his free-standing 6′ 6″ tall stanchion supporting a 6-foot-long kinetic wind vane. The piece is created with recycled structural steel; with one end of the wind vane displaying a cut-out heart shape, and the other side of the wind vane is a circle with smaller heart cut-outs designed to capture wind to create movement as well as shadows of the hearts within the immediate visual space,” explained Debby Coles-Dobay, Public Arts Manager of the City Manager’s Office, Art in Public Places – City of Boynton Beach.

Internationally Renowned Public Artist & Photographer Lloyd Goradesky

Born and raised on Miami Beach, Lloyd Goradesky is an internationally recognized artist and photographer known for his iconic Gator In The Bay art installation, bringing attention and awareness to the Florida Everglades.

In addition to his highly acclaimed photography work, Goradesky is famous for his Public Art project in 2012-2013 “Gator in the Bay,” a 33,000-pound alligator the size of a football field that floats. The head is a 3-story steel sculpture built on a self-propelled barge using recycled junkyard materials. The upper jaw attached to the boom of a crane, opens and closes. The body is made of 104 individual boards (called Floating Art Tiles) displaying 3,000 photographs of the Everglades (captured by the artist).

The head/upper jaw was featured during Art Basel Miami-2012; entire piece was featured in Art Basel Miami-2013. Received widespread, international print and broadcast media coverage, including: ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, CNN, Fox News, Yahoo News, Discovery Channel, Huffington Post, The Examiner, Sun Sentinel, Miami New Times and Miami Herald. Project Manager and Artist, Goradesky worked with federal, environmental and local city officials including Homeland Security, Marine Control, U.S. Coast Guard and NASA for approval. Budget $1,000,000. Private funding for this public art project.
