Penny Hardy Creates Sculptures With A Visible Energy

Penny Hardy originally trained as a Scientific Illustrator enabling her to explore the intricacies and delicate detail of natural forms and structure and the fundamental discipline of observational draughtsmanship. These core skills provided a strong basis on which to explore the natural and human landscape in greater depth. Throughout her training and consequent working life alongside Architects and designers, she developed a deep interest in three dimensional forms and sculpture which has always been at the heart of all her work past and present.

'You Ble Me Away'

A self taught sculptor, learning new techniques and methods as each idea developed, she adapted to the demands of each new sculpture and has built a varied and dynamic portfolio.

'The Kiss'

The sense of movement and dynamics within sculpture provides it with its own life and vitality.  She tries to capture this in all her pieces, transforming inert materials into sculptures with a visible, tangible energy.

'Yin & Yang'

There is a richness in discarded man-made metal items, skillfully made and creating their own mechanical energy, she brings that depth to new forms, re-using that energy for a different purpose, transforming their function to create a new entity.

'Resilience'

The liquid, fluid and flowing forms of the cast pieces dramatically reflect the movement of light across the sculptures. The dance figures, inspired by the dynamic forms of contemporary dancers use flexible, sinuous materials to re-create a visual, retained memory of movement, stimulating imagination and translating early sketches to a tactile experience.

'Duality'

All her sculptures have a vitality and fundamental energy, with an intrinsic visual interest that she feels people can relate to and enjoy and share the emotion expressed.

'Erosion'

Penny has exhibited throughout the UK since her first public exhibition of  dance sculptures in 2006, including Doddington Hall, Hill House Dartington and Royal West of England Academy. She works on a private commission basis and in recent years has completed commissions for clients in Italy, France, Belgium and America.

Sales were brisk across the board with notable New Yorkers like Lin-Manuel Miranda (writer of Hamilton) taking home works by the hundreds of artists that made up Superfine! NYC. New works from Jersey City-based Deep Space Gallery's RU8ICON1 and Pittsburgh-based Box Heart Gallery's Sherry Rusinack and Nicole Gronvold Roller all found New York homes; as did those of solo artists including Wade Asa (NC), Richard Ahnert (Toronto), Monica Delgado (NYC), Noel Kassowitz (Miami / Washington DC), Shamona Stokes (Jersey City), and many, many more. Mark Making with Aaron De La Cruz, Alex Kizu (aka Defer), & Mark Dean Veca September 16 - October 14, 2017 Opening Reception with the Artists SATURDAY, SEPT 16th @ 6-9PM Fabien Castanier Gallery is excited to announce their next exhibition in Los Angeles, Mark Making, featuring work from Aaron De La Cruz, Alex Kizu (aka Defer), and Mark Dean Veca. Each of these artists present work that is built on a foundation of mark-making. Recalling a variety of styles, including abstraction, design, and graffiti, the artists are most familiar with creating large scale installations, pieces that envelope the viewer in realms of meticulously detailed linework and hypnotizing compositions. (152x122cm) TOP: Alex Kizu (Defer) | "Natural Habitat" (detail) acrylic on canvas, 73.25 x 49.5 in. framed (186x126cm) Aaron De La Cruz presents paintings and sculpture that incorporate patterns and motifs that at their core are very simple, but when gathered together create complex, labyrinthine compositions. His pieces, with bold lines and distinctive use of color, straddle the line between painting and design. He reduces his expression into its most minimal form, keeping in mind the surface that he paints on as his patterns seem to flow over and within the walls and canvas. The artist's marks are more often than not unplanned and instinctual, work that he hopes the viewer will infuse with their own narrative. By combining a minimalist aesthetic and often purposefully minimal materials, he seeks to create affecting work with maximum impact. Alex Kizu's work stems from his culture and connection to graffiti and the urban landscape, representing a profound artistic language which distorts the lines between street art and fine art. Kizu, aka Defer, was one of the pioneer members of the first generation of Los Angeles graffiti writers, and he has distilled the hand-style developed since his youth into abstract pieces that incorporate not only typographic motifs but cultural motifs, and complex patterning. Kizu's paintings are highly detailed examinations of line and color, frenetic structures that flow organically with multi-layered abstractions that create a borderless visual depth and complexity. Mark Dean Veca's newest work evolved out of the textures and patterns found in his more representational compositions. By distilling the line-work aesthetic he has used in part, Veca's paintings and installation are an examination of the patterns and details which have grown organically from his oeuvre. The visual motif in these "Dither" paintings are improvisational – spontaneous and abstracted tessellations that exist un-tethered to any particular orientation. By observing his paintings and stepping into his installation, the viewer is engulfed within an optical meditation. While purely abstract, his forms express a refined organic geometry and a sense of depth and illusion contained within a balanced yet tumultuous array. The Fascinating Art Of Cuban Artist Ulices Alfonso

Cuban artist Ulices Alfonso is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist whose current series of work ‘Abandoned‘ represents the idea of false images of the human being. Alfonso’s work was selected to be exhibited this coming May at the Cuban Nostalgia exhibition in Miami, celebrating all things Cuban. The emerging artist is quickly making a name for himself, he is definitely an up-and-coming artist to keep your eyes on.

His work is meaningful and unique, offering a deeper understanding of life with references to disfuntional families, human fears and duplistic personalities. There is an interesting quality in his work, which implies our ability to be phony at times yet believing that we are saints when in fact we are only human and very much flawed.

Alfonso depicts his characters with circles above their heads, the use of the halo to suggest the paradox of both the light and the dark within us. “My work speaks about the false image of the human being. My characters represent a circle of strong situations; fear, double faces, the inability to speak, and to be in connection with something from the past,” said the artist. “My characters speak without words, as the colors, textures, and movements speak through them.”

Alfsonso believes we are the product of a connection to many fears, always digging to find something that is missing or forgotten in our life, something ambiguous from our past perhaps.

He is the winner of a recent art competition with Interior Ink, which specializes in custom printed interior décor for bespoke applications in the architectural, commercial, and residential design communities. Alfonso’s work will be featured in New York City through Interior Ink’s summer trade show.

A figurative painter with a philosophical and esoteric approach to art, Alfonso’s work focuses on colorful, enigmatic characters who come together as a tribe of unidealized figures defying objectification.
