Specifications & Instructions

IMPORTANT: The Red Clay Survey will be juried in two stages. The first stage consists of a review of digital images submitted online. Artists accepted into the first stage will be invited to ship or hand-deliver their artwork to the Museum for a second-stage, on-site review. Works accepted into the second stage of jurying will be exhibited in The Red Clay Survey.
  • Artists must be over 18 years of age and reside in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia.
  • Artists may submit up to six digital images for a non-refundable entry fee of $10 per image. Members of the Huntsville Museum of Art may enter for a reduced fee of $8 per image.
  • Entry deadline is Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Entries received after midnight April 15, 2020 will not be accepted.
  • Works in all media are eligible, provided they can be juried by digital image. These include painting (ex. watercolor, oil, acrylic), drawing (ex. charcoal, graphite, pastel), printmaking, photography/digital media, sculpture, mixed media and fine craft (ex. wood, metal, clay, fiber, glass, jewelry).
  • Works must be original and executed within the last three years (2018 – present). Works previously exhibited at the Huntsville Museum of Art are not eligible. Proposed works will not be considered.
  • Works chosen for the exhibition must be finished, dry, and ready to install. 2-D works must be framed and, where appropriate, glazed with Plexiglas (hand-delivered items may be glazed with glass) OR gallery wrapped canvas. No Substitutions are allowed.
  • The Museum reserves the right to eliminate any entry that is not reasonably adaptable to its physical facility (for example, a sculpture should fit within a hypothetical 12-foot cube; the horizontal dimension of any work should not exceed 12 feet).
  • Any works too large or too fragile to be shipped via standard shipping carriers must be hand-delivered and picked up.
