Call for Artists: VOX Miami at South Miami Metrorail Station

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works with partners The TREO Group and architects Perkins + Will request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the façade of the garage in conjunction with the VOX Miami development at the South Miami Metrorail Station. The selected artist(s) will design unique artwork(s) that will contribute to the identity of this facility and engage employees, visitors and passers-by in unexpected and delightful ways. Located on 5949 Sunset Drive, next to the South Miami Metrorail Station. Artists must submit 10 images of their work, a brief statement, and a resume.

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS DEADLINE: Monday, May 25, 2020 / 11:59PM

BUDGET: $360,000

ELIGIBILITY: Open to professional visual artists based in South Florida

The project will progress in two phases, phase I being the expansion of the already-existing garage that is on the west side of the building. Vox Miami Phase II is building the east facade, which is set to face the US1 and the South Miami Metrorail Station. The project is expected to be completed this summer, as the project began towards the end of April.

Any qualifications submitted will be reviewed by Art in Public Places Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), which is a group of art professionals appointed by the Art in Public Places Trust. PAC will then make a shortlist of artists that will be paid an allowance in exchange for developing specific proposals.

Selected artists will access the architectural plans, participate in an artist orientation and a site visit to meet the stakeholders and develop the proposals. Then, a three-member PAC group will review the artist proposals and make a recommendation to the Art in Public Places Trust to create public art commissions.
