Join us this Saturday, Nov. 2, 2o13 at Brisky Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District at 7pm. for the opening reception of 'Calacas Reinvented' by South Florida artist Yvonne Pfeiffer. The artist uses pastels as her medium and creates incredible 'Calacas', a colloquial Mexican Spanish name for skeleton, whose origins can be traced from Aztec imagery. They are an interesting art form associated with the Day of the Dead Festival and are frequently shown with marigold flowers and foliage. As with other aspects of this Mexican Festival, Calacas are generally depicted as joyous rather than mournful figures. For 'Calacas Reinvented', the artist's subject is the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who is best known for her self-portraits. This exhibition is dedicated to Kahlo, the hosts Brisky Gallery and Irreversible Projects are having a 'Frida Best Dressed Competition' along with a Mariachi Performance at 9pm. - Brisky Gallery is located at 13o NW 24th Street in Miami, FL 33127.
