FAIR HIGHLIGHT
Yang Jung Uk
Gallery SoSo | Seoul, Korea
Yang Jung Uk – A Man Without Words – Gallery SoSo (Seoul, Korea)– 34-year old multi-media artist – environment/installation of light, sound and motion from simple found objects.
“A Man Without Words” encompassed Jung Uk’s reflections upon the everyday, simple things that would occur in both his life and the lives of the individuals around him who seemed to lead monotonous, repetitive lives.
Yang’s work draws out the void within ordinary people who are living within the standardization of contemporary society and imbues it with humanity. He draws out life’s principles as well as play, using a medium such as kinetic art that is both dynamic and systematic to tell stories that are both silent and lyrical.
Gallery SoSo of Seoul, Korea will be exhibiting in Booth 411.

Miami Artist Troy Simmons' Work Elegantly Blends Nature and Modern Brutalist Architecture
Miami-based visual artist Troy Simmons is inspired by nature’s persistence to co-exist despite the impact we impose – combined with his fascination for the Brutalist Architectural movement of the 1950’s, the result is a contemporary re-incarnation of the Arte Povera genre. Simmons uses concrete, color fields & organic forms to express his position on the harmonious existence of different entities.
“Opposites attract. Although rather cliche, it’s a theme that echos true to my intense fascination with nature and modern Brutalist Architecture. Concrete, acrylics and raw natural elements allow me to physically explore the ideological perceptions of incompatible binary relationships,” explains Simmons.
“My inspiration is drawn from the evolution of our social structure and nature’s persistence to coexist despite the elements that work against it. Relationships and families formed regardless of political, ethnic or religious backgrounds are parallel experiences found in the natural world around us. The contrast is easily seen in sprouts of grass, growing through a small crack in the sidewalk. These ideas fuel my passion to create unique art that exposes the stable coexistence of opposites.”
Troy Simmons is a strong believer in discovery through creation and describes his work as an exploration of the relationship between nature and man. Simmons challenges himself by creating unique pieces that expose the beauty that is created when these elements collide. The artist is represented by Jankossen Contemporary (New York/Basel, Switzerland) and is a resident artist at Bakehouse Art Complex – Studio #27, in the Wynwood Arts District at 561 NW 32nd Street, Miami Florida 33127.
Art Palm Beach Announces Winners of Poster Competition for 2016 Fair
In celebration of its 19th edition of ArtPalmBeach January 20 – 24, 2016 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the fair’s founders/organizers, Lee Ann and David Lester launched a new competition for the fair’s annual poster. Two winners were selected, Samantha Vassor from the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and Laura Rincon from Palm Beach State College. The Lester’s partnered with the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Palm Beach State College and the competition was open to all students from both schools, the only caveat being the inclusion of the phrase, Art Palm Beach 2016.
ArtPalmBeach 2016 Poster Winner Samantha Vassor
“We wanted the students to have creative liberty and were thrilled with the hundreds of submissions that we received. Our curatorial panel narrowed the entries down to the ten best from each school and then we opened to voting to the public,” says Lee Ann Lester. More than 33,000 votes were cast, and Ms. Vassor and Ms. Rincon received more than 40% of the votes in separate polls for each school.
ArtPalmBeach 2016 Poster Winner Laura Rincon
“It is a great opportunity for the students to get engaged with the contemporary art world coming into their local community and learn about a part of the process behind planning and marketing a large event like Art Palm Beach,” says Lacey Van Reeth, Dean of Visual Arts, A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. “We’re very excited that Art Palm Beach, the largest art show in Palm Beach County wanted to connect with our students. It’s so important that our students exhibit their work and have the opportunity to deal with clients early on in their careers.
Palm Beach State College is thrilled that Laura Rincon, one of our talented students, will have her artwork serve as the poster for Art Palm Beach,” says Victoria R. Martin, Professor 1, Department Chair Fine Arts and Graphic Design, Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth Campus.
In addition to the prestige of serving as the official Art Palm Beach 2016 posters, Vassor’s Mt. Pink Lake and Rincon’s Self Portrait will be published in 10,000 copies of the January 2016 issue of PureHoney Magazine as 33’ x 21’ posters, and will be included in marketing campaigns with the originals exhibited at the fair.
