New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 Photography Series
New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 is a photographic series depicting young men from Miami's creative community on road trips across Florida, where overlooked landscapes set the stage for scenes of camaraderie and exploration.
Spring, a work from the series, debuted as Aronson's first public art installation and became the first city commission in Miami Beach history to win both the People's Choice Award and the Juror's Prize. To celebrate, Aronson created limited edition silk prints of Spring—a gesture toward a more playful, open vision of masculinity. Each edition includes a signed certificate of authenticity, a signed postcard, and a custom enclosure designed to sit neatly on a bookshelf.
About the artist: Josh Aronson (American, b. 1994, Toronto, Canada) is an artist based in Miami, Florida. His work explores masculinity in the American South through tableaux photographs that blend history, autobiography, and fiction. Drawing from Southern Gothic traditions and documentary archives, Aronson reimagines portrayals of young men in the region, emphasizing tenderness, camaraderie, and self-discovery.

Laurence Gartel "The Father of Digital Art", part of the Greatest Photographers of All Times exhibition & winner of the FotoMentor Award in 2009. |
Laurence Gartel: Known as ‘The Father of Digital Art’, Gartel’s vision was to create electronic images, capture them with a still camera off a monitor as there were no saving devices or software to store the created picture. He saw these images as works of Art that would eventually replace painting. In 1985 he delivered the keynote speech at the First Pan Pacific Computer Conference in Melbourne, Australia predicting the future of the world, which landed him on the front page of “The Australian” Newspaper. This was the same year he taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer to create the album cover for Debbie Harry (Blondie.) It was a moment when “Pop Art met Digital Art.” In 1991, he produced his famous ABSOLUT GARTEL ad for Absolut Vodka. Gartel had a feature exhibition at the Norton Museum of Art, and in 2009 he received the Palm Beach Photographic Centre’s prestigious FOTOmentor Award. In his 40+ year career he created artwork for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards; Newport Jazz Festival; NASA; Monaco International Film Festival; Feature of the 113th New York International Auto Show; Oslo Motor Show Norway and much more.

The University of Miami, Department of Art & Art History presents Mexico City: An Enchanting Trip Through Time by Sean Black
The University of Miami Department of Art and Art History presents the online exhibition Mexico City: An Enchanting Trip Through Time by Sean Black. "Given the importance of flattening the curve and the safety and well-being of our students and visitors, the Wynwood Gallery has closed until further notice. We hope you are staying home and practicing social distancing, and are excited to find new ways to engage with art in this challenging time."
"Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to visit Mexico City and this past Christmas I finally made this dream come true. Traveling on Christmas Day from Miami, a simple three-hour flight, I immediately set off on my adventure exploring the many breathtaking neighborhoods of North America’s oldest city. A special highlight was a personally guided tour by my good friend and colleague Lecturer here at the University of Miami’s Art and Art History Department, Gerardo Olhovich, a brilliant painter and a native of Mexico City who guided me on a private ghost tour, treated me to epicurean delights of the artsy Coyoacan neighborhood and led me on a stroll through the upscale artist’s colony of San Angel. Mexico city is definitely one of the most romantic and vibrant cities in the world; a splendid and enchanting trip through time." -Sean Black.
Sean Black is a Miami-based artist, university educator and journalist working in the fields of social justice and sexual health. His decade-long tenure as Senior Editor with A&U: America’s AIDS Magazine allowed him the opportunity of photographing and interviewing numerous celebrity and political luminaries in the fights against HIV/AIDS including Sheryl Lee Ralph, Alicia Keys, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Greg Louganis and many more; thus growing the publication’s mission of collecting, archiving, publishing and distributing the art, activism, and current events emanating from the AIDS pandemic. His work has been published internationally in the LA Times, Huffington Post, USA Today, NBC News, GQ Brazil, Ebony, The NewStatesman, Stern Magazine, People.com, Playbill, Springer Medizin. International Call for Artists: 'Let There Be.' an International Call for Lens-Based Art About Tangibility
The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists to submit photographic or lens-based works of art about tangibility. Photography and lens-based art is often, even unconsciously, taken for granted as being disembodied from physical reality. However, without catalytic objects such works would not be possible. For this exhibition Manifest is interested in showcasing works that reveal the 'objectness' of photography either through display of the works themselves, the mechanisms crafted to create lens-based experiences, dialogs between photographic works and their physical subjects, or narrative works explaining the complicated entanglement of light and form. The theme is open to very broad interpretation. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental photography, photo-based, or lens-based works. $40 for up to 4 entries. $5 per each additional entry. Deadline: July 25, 2020.
