New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 Photography Series

New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 is a photographic series depicting young men from Miami's creative community on road trips across Florida, where overlooked landscapes set the stage for scenes of camaraderie and exploration.

Spring, a work from the series, debuted as Aronson's first public art installation and became the first city commission in Miami Beach history to win both the People's Choice Award and the Juror's Prize. To celebrate, Aronson created limited edition silk prints of Spring—a gesture toward a more playful, open vision of masculinity. Each edition includes a signed certificate of authenticity, a signed postcard, and a custom enclosure designed to sit neatly on a bookshelf.

About the artist: Josh Aronson (American, b. 1994, Toronto, Canada) is an artist based in Miami, Florida. His work explores masculinity in the American South through tableaux photographs that blend history, autobiography, and fiction. Drawing from Southern Gothic traditions and documentary archives, Aronson reimagines portrayals of young men in the region, emphasizing tenderness, camaraderie, and self-discovery.

Artist Frank Stella, Master of Reinvention, Dies at 87. Works on Display at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.

Stella's work in display at NSU Art Museum in 'Glory of the World: Color Field Painting (1950s to 1983)' on view November 21, 2023 through August 25, 2024.

Frank Stella emerged as part of a generation of American artists excited by, driven and challenged by Abstract Expressionism. From his groundbreaking debut in the 1960's to his status as a living legend, Stella's artistic journey is a testament to innovation, experimentation, and boundless creativity, proving himself a master of reinvention.

Stella's impact extends far beyond the canvas. As a trailblazer in the art world, he inspired generations of artists to rethink the possibilities of abstraction and embrace visual storytelling's power. His bold experimentation with scale, shape, and dimension continues to shape the contemporary art landscape, leaving an indelible mark on art history.

Bonnie Clearwater, Director and Chief Curator of NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale has been presenting Frank Stella's works since the late 90s and currently has his works on view at the Museum in Glory of the World: Color Field Painting (1950s to 1983). On view November 21, 2023 through August 25, 2024.

The exhibition’s title Glory of the World, takes its cue from Frank Stella’s writings on Hans Hofmann’s abstract painting Gloriamundi (1963): “Hofmann proved that the straightforward manipulation of pigment can create exalted art…Glory of the world this painting surely is, and glory of the world his painting surely was and is.” Like Hofmann, the monumental Color Field paintings in this exhibition arouse a sense of wonder and discovery.

Renowned Mixed Media Artist Vito Bonanno Is Spreading The Word Through His Art That Autism Is A Creative & Magical Gift

Vito Bonanno was diagnosed with PDD/Autism just before his 4th birthday. Because he was language delayed, his parents and teachers developed strategies that tapped into his high visual acuity, utilizing storyboard styles to relay information. The storyboard grid remains prominent in his work and studio preparation today and is a poignant reminder of a boy who was trapped in his own mind.

Artist Vito Bonanno pictured with his work at Six Summit Gallery NYC November 2022

Internationally collected artist Vito Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, placing his innermost feelings onto canvas. The New England-based artist’s work is image and concept-driven and embedded in his personal philosophy. His art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, and dreams, coupled with objects or topics that “get stuck in his head”, including traffic lights, grids, ceiling fans, graffiti, and pop culture. Corporate clients include AMAZON, Google, and The Hartford.

Vito Bonanno’s Red, 2017 Spray paint, acrylic paint, paint marker, artist marker on canvas, 36″H x 24″W x 1.5″D. *This piece is available for sale through ArtLifting, both the original piece and prints are available.

Most recently, the artist completed a solo exhibition at Six Summit Gallery NYC Port Authority Location Public Exhibition Space titled Beauty & Chaos II. The gallery is located at 625 8th Avenue, South Building Floors 1 & 2, New York, New York. The exhibition was comprised of older works of Bonanno’s, combined with paintings that he created throughout the Pandemic, as well works from Spring and Summer 2022. The exhibition could be viewed as a “retrospective” of sorts for the artist, with a history of paintings for art lovers and collectors to experience – while also understanding the deeper meaning of the artist’s body of work.

Akus Gallery Director, Elizabeth Peterson stated, “The characters, objects, and ideas that inhabit Vito Bonanno’s work act and interact in striking ways. Caught within the grids and map-like structures he imagines, they are often in a struggle between multiple worlds. He has found a way to tap in the intensity of focus and insight afforded him through autism to unleash a formidable creative power and vision.” His winning pieces, ‘Ghost Town on Davenport Avenue’ was exhibited at the S. Dillon Ripley Center of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and then was part of a traveling exhibition that went on a two year nationwide tour of university and independent galleries. Additionally, a second winning piece titled ‘Southhaven People’, was on exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C. before also partaking in the nationwide traveling exhibition that ran through September 2011.

Sri Prabha (b. 1969 Hyderabad, India; lives and works in Hollywood, FL) created a phenomenal site-specific multi-sensory installation at the Boca Raton Museum of Art that explores our connection to the natural world by commingling ideas from Vedic philosophy and science. His exhibition Resonator - Reanimator, is on view at the museum June 14 - October 22, 2023.

“Earth Force 2” by Sri Prabha, Courtesy Boca Raton Museum of Art

Abstract patterned digital projections sweep the walls, covering paintings and sculptures to create constantly shifting organic forms. Paired with audio of monks chanting, the overall feel is that of preparing the mind for meditation. Within the mind frame of meditation, visitors will see references to both the smallest and greatest elements of our universe.

Spiraling, pulsing amorphous shapes call to mind the view through a microscope, and twinkling flashes of light are reminiscent of a telescope’s sight. Melded together, they will create a psychedelic environment of saturated colors.

Joseph R. Yonke was trained from a young age by the well-known painter Robert Yonke, his Grandfather, who served as a source of inspiration and mentorship for the artist. His unique abstract-expressionist style captures elements of surrealism and cubism, combined with his impasto technique – Yonke’s work has captivated art critics and enthusiasts worldwide. His vibrant and often chaotic paintings reflect his experiences and significant moments in his life and explore themes of identity, emotion, consciousness, and the human condition.

Contemporary Artist Joseph R. Yonke

He developed a high-profile collector base in and out of the country after completing his first solo exhibition last year in Pittsburgh. About the work for the upcoming exhibition, “There was a lot I observed about people and myself over the last couple of years. Over this time, I spent the majority of it alone, which is not a hyperbole, so I analyzed what I am about to expand upon adequately. I considered how I and others interact with the people and general society they reside in. Hence my subject matter of interest solidified to portraits. I considered the complexities of the self and identity through those who have been a part of my life in some capacity, along with frequent introspection.”

‘KoFWSTKWUTB’, 48” x 36”, oil paint, acrylic paint, ink, and oil stick on canvas

“At first, my conclusions often frustrated me, thinking that people, especially in my generation, have a profound proclivity to be disingenuous and superficial, therefore diverging from any real source of human connection we all inherently crave. But besides the negative aspects of people and their tendencies, they are dynamic, beautiful, and extremely complex, vastly impacted by their environments, which is what I attempted to represent visually as these observations alone are so captivating,” stated the artist.

“Being a young person in your twenties is quite an interesting time in life regarding personal development. For example, you begin to analyze the intricacies of your relationships. When I would ponder things such as who truly cared about me, I deliberated the various regards they had towards me. Then a similar process was operated when I observed the utilization of different personalities and filters individuals employ based on who they are interacting with.”

“It seems as though many people today, especially in the younger generation(s), have the proclivity to be filtered. More specifically to this body of work, to visually represent these interests facilitated through a dance with the identity and self, I often incorporate either multiple faces, mouths, or eyes onto a single figure or portrait. If the subject has multiple eyes, they alter how they see a person based on who they are viewing; if mouths, they alter the way they speak depending on who they are speaking to or what they prefer to convey to others; if faces, they interchange their persona also due to the context of their present situation.”

“The backgrounds also play a role in this visual conversation since I attempted to represent how the environment people find themselves in, which tend to be impactful and chaotic, affects people as well. And while this may seem critical, I am not really disparaging it either because self-imposed filters can be warranted. Since what I referred to relates to intimacy, I will also mention that the portraits I paint are distorted for a reason; the reasoning behind the distortion is that it catalyzes the possibilities of the viewer identifying someone they know and therefore can ultimately relate to, hence painting a more broadly identifiable face is my method in doing so,” explained Yonke of his art.

Yonke’s work integrates paint and self-expression while exploring and discovering the self and the unknown, communicating internal human struggles and how they are then projected into the world through visual representation. “I try to reimagine the human face or figure, incorporate its being into its surroundings, and give those surroundings a new life and resemblance,” said the artist.
