New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 Photography Series

New at The Shop at The Bass, curated by Studio AF, Josh Aronson's 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 is a photographic series depicting young men from Miami's creative community on road trips across Florida, where overlooked landscapes set the stage for scenes of camaraderie and exploration.

Spring, a work from the series, debuted as Aronson's first public art installation and became the first city commission in Miami Beach history to win both the People's Choice Award and the Juror's Prize. To celebrate, Aronson created limited edition silk prints of Spring—a gesture toward a more playful, open vision of masculinity. Each edition includes a signed certificate of authenticity, a signed postcard, and a custom enclosure designed to sit neatly on a bookshelf.

About the artist: Josh Aronson (American, b. 1994, Toronto, Canada) is an artist based in Miami, Florida. His work explores masculinity in the American South through tableaux photographs that blend history, autobiography, and fiction. Drawing from Southern Gothic traditions and documentary archives, Aronson reimagines portrayals of young men in the region, emphasizing tenderness, camaraderie, and self-discovery.

#CallForArt --> SaveArtSpace x THE HERE AND THERE COLLECTIVE: Reinventing Asia Futurism / New York, NY - Open call ends August 12, 2024.

Announcing New Open Call For Art!

SaveArtSpace x THE HERE AND THERE COLLECTIVE: Reinventing Asia Futurism / New York, NY - Open call ends August 12, 2024. LEARN MORE HERE.

SaveArtSpace x THE HERE AND THERE COLLECTIVE is pleased to announce an open call focused on artists from the Asian Diaspora. All artists and creatives are invited to submit new or previously shown works for this iteration of SaveArtSpace. The following call is organized by Rosa Chang with the support of The Here and There Collective.

Reinventing Asia Futurism, invites artists to submit works that explore what an “Asian” aesthetic is through a recontextualization, questioning, and/ or denouncement of such associations. Artists are encouraged to address how Asian identities can shape and be shaped by culturally and technologically advanced futures, and how these identities evolve within the larger global context. Historically, concepts such as techno-Orientalism have fed into stereotyped or exoticized depictions, portraying Asian countries as technologically advanced yet culturally alien.

This open call aims to subvert these outdated notions and highlight the complex realities of Asian futurity. As contemporary global dynamics shift, the interconnectedness of Asian communities in shaping their futures becomes more intricate and multifaceted, inviting a deeper exploration of historical, cultural, and technological contributions. Any artist who self-identifies as part of the Asian Diaspora is welcome to apply.

Artists of all ages and talents are invited to submit their artwork between June 25 and August 12, 2024. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on ad space in New York City.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami invites you to experience Welcome to Paradise! Victory Garden – Feb 8

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami invites you to experience Welcome to Paradise, a dynamic new commissioning program featuring temporary public art projects by local South Florida artists. This program invites artists to create ambitious and experimental art installations that activate MOCA’s Paradise Courtyard. The first season centers on artists working at the intersection of ecology and technology.

On view February 8 through June 25, 2023, visitors will be able to step into the Paradise Courtyard and discover Victory Garden, an interactive sculptural community garden created by Miami-based artist Emmett Moore. Drawing inspiration from victory gardens of the past, which were planted during wartime to supplement rations and boost morale, Moore’s Victory Garden connects the local community with contemporary art and encourages visitors to reflect on our relationship with the built environment.

Utilizing sustainable materials such as repurposed steel drums to form sculptural planters, Victory Garden will feature plants native to South Florida and the Caribbean such as Cuban oregano, collard greens, starfruit, bee balm and Everglades cherry tomatoes that will be harvested and shared. It will also include benches and solar-powered USB outlets for visitors to use.

About the Artist

Emmett Moore is a Miami-based artist and designer known for a technically rigorous interdisciplinary approach that challenges notions of functionality and fluctuates seamlessly between design and art. Moore’s work employs processes taken primarily from architecture and industrial design to examine the relationship between ecology and the built environment. Moore utilizes found forms of everyday objects to speak to the universality and timelessness of the utilitarian and quotidian, working with secondhand goods and modular systems to break down inherent hierarchies within the physical world, elevate the mundane, and demystify systems of value.

His work has been shown institutionally at the RISD Museum, the Frost Art Museum, the Miami Art Museum, the Bass Museum of Art, and is in the permanent collection of the Perez Art Museum Miami. He was the first Miami-based designer to exhibit a solo exhibition at Design Miami/. He is representedby Nina Johnson gallery in Miami, Fl.

Moore’s work has been covered by Art in America, The Guardian, The Miami Herald, Cultured Magazine, Architectural Digest, Artsy and The Art Newspaper among others. Moore was named Miami New Times’ Best Visual Artist in 2015 and 2021.

BREACH presents ‘More Than This’, featuring the work of Ces McCully

More Than This at BREACH Gallery, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Ces McCully. For her first solo show in the United States, McCully presents a series of paintings that seamlessly move from geometric abstract color fields to graphically minimal self-portraits to sentiments rendered in playful letters that on first glance appear gentler than perhaps their subtext would suggest.

Image: Ces McCully, “Bless this mess we’re in”, Oil and acrylic on canvas, 47 x 63 in. (120x160cm).

In the past, McCully has explored themes of identity and the evolution of contemporary social paradigms as a result of technology and social media. For “More Than This”, she has centered her work around the theme of femininity. Continuing to discuss questions of identity, she utilizes influences from textile work and religious iconography to create pieces that feel personal and at times nostalgic. Her work both reveals and examines areas of society where women have historically sought solace or ways to exercise their voice or power.
