Renowned Glass Artist Abby Modell Featured in the Inaugural Medici Museum Exhibition 'ZODIAC: Mysterious Power of the Creative', with a VIP Panel & Reception on July 11th

 


Experience renowned glass artist Abby Modell in the exhibition, ZODIAC: Mysterious Power of the Creative, at the Medici Museum of Art. Her luminous sculptural works bring a cosmic elegance to this star-studded group show, presented by the Feuerman Sculpture Foundation. Collectors and art aficionados will enjoy a VIP Panel and Reception on Friday, July 11th from 5-8pm at the Medici Museum of Art in Howland, Ohio. Curated by Katelyn Amendolara-Russo, Executive Director of the Medici Museum, this groundbreaking show explores the astrological, psychological, and symbolic dimensions of creativity through contemporary art.

The exhibition brings together emerging and established artists who interpret the mystical power of the zodiac in bold and unexpected ways—through sculpture, painting, and multimedia. Rather than focusing on specific zodiac signs, the selected works reflect a broader engagement with celestial forces and spiritual intuition.

It’s a privilege to position the Medici as a platform where global artistic voices converge in the heart of Ohio.”

Abby Modell’s new Galaxy Collection illustrates the movement and luminosity of the universe. The artist’s vision of celestial waterfalls and cosmic butterflies are interpreted throughout the collection which includes Wall Art, Sculptural Objects and LED Lighting. Modell specializes in hand-applied glass assemblages on three-dimensional surfaces, developed through her exploration of contemporary glass techniques.

Modell is a widely collected and acclaimed glass artist. She is currently exhibiting her work at the Medici Museum of Art with the Carole A. Feuerman Sculpture Foundation in the ZODIAC exhibition, on view April 30 – December 31, 2025. Her collection was most recently featured at Art Palm Beach 2025. She has exhibited her designs in the iconic Bloomingdale’s 2023 Holiday Windows flagship store in NYC, and at numerous fine art fairs and galleries including the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, Salon Art + Design, Collectible NY, Scope Miami, Art New York, SOFA Chicago, and the Architectural Digest Design Show, New York City.

Modell’s work is in and has been exhibited at private homes, corporate collections and museums, including the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the world headquarters of Morgan Stanley in New York City, the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, the Wit Gallery installation at the Canyon Ranch, Lenox, MA, the First International Biennale of Santorini, Greece, the First Heclectik-Art Glass International Biennial in Braga, Portugal and Commissioned collections include collaborations with Bloomingdale’s in 2016 and 2013, Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas luxury cruise ship, and the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt in New York City.

Modell’s solo exhibit showcases spectacular new pieces including a series of ‘StarIce Waterfalls’ in brilliant ombre color palettes mixed with frosted translucent shades of glass and Swarovski crystals. Also shown are vibrantly colored oversized illuminated sculptural objects and playful new organic ‘Moon Mountains’ in mirrored, transparent and luster finishes. Metallic and neutral hues are incorporated into this body of work.

The ‘Galaxy Collection’ features glass assemblages using Modell’s DiamondDust™ that combines fire-polished with Swarovski crystals. It creates infinite reflections within the work. Each piece of glass is applied to the surface by hand, exemplifying the magic of the creative journey to create these unique works of art. Abby Modell was recently honored and named as a Swarovski Ingredient Brand Partner. Swarovski recognizes the quality and importance of her artistic work.

“Matte, mirrored and gloss glass with mixed crystals create textural cosmic surfaces. I strive to visually expand dimension by incorporating reflective and metallic hues within my work. I have the unique opportunity to present a cohesive collection by featuring my work as a solo artist in my gallery. Arting Gallery is delighted to announce the release of LINLING LU, a special edition art book that surveys the artist's work from 2010 to present. Comprising 212 pages of high quality color images and selected texts, the book is the first comprehensive overview of Linling Lu's works including, One Hundred Melodies of Solitude, Passage of Time, Agitated Meditation, and Block Sculptures.


Informative, behind the scenes photographs, reveal the artist's creative process and its deep connection to music. LINLING LU includes an introductory essay by Vesela Sretenović, Ph.D, former director of contemporary art initiatives and academic affairs at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC. Chief editor of the book is Danielle O'Steen, Ph.D., art historian, independent curator, and educator. LINLING LU is published by Arting Gallery, designed by Glenn Dellon Design, and printed by Schmitz Press, all Baltimore-based organizations.

Linling Lu is a Baltimore-based artist, best known for her hard-edge, circular abstract paintings with concentric rings of color. Her human-scale tondos have been described as inducing states of meditation and compared to the Washington Color School painters, such as Kenneth Noland. In addition to her colorful, circular abstractions, Lu's work includes sculptures of interlocking wood blocks, shaped paintings, and mixed media works that incorporate traditional and contemporary textiles sourced from across the globe.  


Lu received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and an MFA from LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, MICA. Her work has been exhibited at The Phillips Collection, the Walters Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Sotheby's Institute of Art, The Delaware Contemporary, the Delaware Art Museum, the American University Museum, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kohl Gallery at Washington College, Towson University's Center for the Arts, and the Maryland Institute College of Art.


Lu's artworks are in the permanent collections of The Phillips Collection, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Microsoft, Louis Vuitton, Capital One, Accenture, City Center DC, 1700 Broadway, Carl M. Freeman Foundation, and The Embassy of the United States of America in Beijing. Modell’s work has been exhibited at private homes, corporate collections and museums, including the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the world headquarters of Morgan Stanley in NYC, the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Canyon Ranch, Lenox, MA, the 1st International Biennale of Santorini, Greece, and the 1st International Heclectik-Art Glass Biennial in Portugal. Commissioned collections include the Bloomingdale’s Holiday Windows NYC, Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas luxury cruise ship, and the Faberge Big Egg Hunt in NYC.
