International Call for Artists: NYC4PA Call for Entry - From A Seed - A World Of Botanicals

NYC4PA Call for Entry - From A Seed - A World Of Botanicals

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call to artists for an online art exhibition. $4,000 total awards. Open to any and all photography that fits the theme. $35/3, $10 each additional. Deadline: May 13, 2020.

FROM A SEED....A WORLD OF BOTANICALS

Growing up in NYC each of us had the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of botanicals at both the New York and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  We had the opportunity to develop an early appreciation for the variety of life that starts with a seed, much of it in spectacular greenery and flowers bursting with color.

Though seeds can be tiny and come in an envelope at the nursery, large and found in the center of a fruit, or black and found in a watermelon; they all hold the promise to become glorious botanicals.

With spring approaching in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern, capture your unique view of favorite flowers, trees in bloom, variegated leaf patterns, vines etc. in gardens, at the beach, on your window sill, or in the rain forest.

As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

CASH PRIZES:

Grand Prize: One photographer will receive $1100.  The image will be featured on the home page of the NYC4PA website

First Prize: 3 photographers will each receive $400.

Second Prize: 3 photographers will each receive $325.

Third Prize: 3 photographers will each receive $250

ONLINE GALLERY, CATALOG and AWARD CERTIFICATE: All prizewinners will be included in both the online gallery and catalog and be presented with a certificate.

ELIGIBILITY: This Call for Entries is open worldwide to both amateur and professional photographers.  NYC4PA invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate. Experimental and mixed techniques are welcome. Only 2-D work is eligible.

International Call for Artists: Liquid ~ Sky, International Juried Photo Exhibition

Liquid ~ Sky | An International Juried Photography Exhibition

Praxis Gallery & Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis, MN seeks entries for a juried photography exhibition, June 18 - July 14, 2020. Awards: Fifty images will be selected by the juror for exhibition at Praxis Gallery. A Juror’s Choice, three Honorable Mentions, and a Directors Choice will be awarded and featured in the exhibition, the printed show catalog, and the online exhibit gallery. Juror’s Choice will receive free entry into three juried calls for entry of their choice and a complimentary exhibit book. Directors Choice will receive free entry into two juried calls for entry of their choice. Juror: Elizabeth Flinsch, Editor - Shots Magazine. Open to all photography. $35 for the first five images and $5 for each additional image. Deadline: April 30, 2020.

Liquid conforms to the shape of its container. The sky is an abstract sphere, centered on the earth. Liquid, Water, Sky and the liminal space between are by definition poetic and symbolic. Yet there are infinite iterations of liquid & sky: consider our human drive to master and contain liquids (pools, levies, faucets and bottles); idiomatic lamentations of “spilt milk” or “water under the bridge”– while also reaching upward in towering buildings, air planes, and rockets pushing skyward.

Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that explores the ideas of liquid and sky in their myriad iterations; from landscapes to still life – from scientific to conceptual, Praxis seeks a broadly interpreted investigation of these forever flowing, forever ethereal ideas. All genres, capture types, color and black & white, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

Call To Artists: Broward Art Guild presents Spring Fling Virtual Art Exhibit

Spring Fling Virtual Art Exhibit Call to Artists

In partnership with Broward Art Guild, The New Pelican will host the Spring Fling Virtual Exhibit.

During this era of social distancing when traditional, up-close exhibits are impossible, this virtual exhibit is a chance for artists and art lovers to keep art alive in a fresh way: online and in print.

Art lovers will be able to vote online for their favorite piece.

For those who want to buy art pieces later, prices will be displayed and contact info for Broward Art Guild will be provided. In this difficult economic situation, art lovers with the financial means are encouraged to support artists by purchasing their work. They will also be supporting Broward Art Guild by helping to keep it afloat until the reopening of its physical gallery.

After the voting, the winners will be published on The New Pelican’s website and in its print edition.

Artists, members of Broward Art Guild and non-members alike, are invited to send JPG images of their best artwork – open theme, open medium – to browardartguild.org/spring-fling-exhibit.htm where they will be guided through the registration process.

Up to three images can be submitted at a cost of $10 each. The submission period is Saturday, April 4, through Saturday, April 18.

As with all Broward Art Guild exhibits, entries will be reviewed by a professional judge. The top 50 will be displayed online at newpelican.com/category/spring-fling-virtual-exhibit and the nine award winners will be featured in the paper’s online and print editions.

Voting [artists can also vote] will take place from Friday, April 24, to Wednesday, April 29.

Go to newpelican.com and sign up for the email list to ensure one person, one vote. The top vote getter will be awarded People’s Choice and featured in The New Pelican’s May 1 print and online editions.

Along with the People’s Choice, the judge’s top eight pieces will be featured in print and online: best in show, second and third places, four honorable mentions, and a judge’s recognition.

Project Summary:
Perhaps each of us has a favorite spot along the coast. Looking out over it, we may find ourselves asking, will it survive?  For this reason, hundreds of artists are joining to create For the Seventh Generation: a free-standing, two-foot by mile-long painting dedicated to ocean protection. When the mural is complete, every mile of the California, Oregon, and Washington coastline will be represented by an artist who has created a four-foot section of the total mural – conceptually a continuous landscape, a panorama of the western coastline.
The ocean is continually under threat. Pollution, coastal development, and overfishing all tax the health of its finite system. Without our strong environmental conscience and a voice to express it, threats to the ocean will be left unchallenged and its health subject to the whim and manipulations of politics and industry. This project, extending through the twenty-first century, provides such a voice.
The project is also a fundraiser. We donate 30% of the proceeds from every panel sold to a nonprofit ocean protection organization of the artist’s choice.
The project is presented in two forms: We hold a curated gallery show at the Elisabeth Jones Art Center annually, with our next installation in July 2020.
We also display the entirety of the completed panels at an outdoor event where they are hung end-to-end in geographic order, giving viewers an opportunity to conceptually walk the west coast (2020 date TBD).
Who We Are: Located in Portland’s Pearl District, the Elisabeth Jones Art Center is a gallery and exhibition space dedicated to presenting artwork with a message. Our exhibitions focus on a particular issue, ecological and/or humanitarian, and a percentage of every sale is donated to a nonprofit organization working within the exhibition’s theme.

Artwork Specifications for Seventh Generation panels: We are currently accepting submissions for the gallery exhibition of the For the Seventh Generation project occurring in August 2020.

1.
Subject: Artwork must depict a specific location on the West Coast of the United States. The image must be coastal but does not need to be a beach scene. Other examples may include seaside cliffs, wildlife, dunes, boardwalks, waves, figures, etc. Creativity and originality are encouraged.

IMPORTANT: Before beginning work on the panel you would like to submit, please email your first and second choice locations to inga@elisabethjones.art. The project is already in progress and not all locations are available. If this step is skipped, we may not be able to accept your submission.
2.  Style: All artistic representations are accepted! Realism is not a requirement and abstract interpretations are welcome.
3. Display: Work to be shown in the gallery must be framed, wired and without glass. The frame must be one that comes off easily. When shown together in the outdoor exhibition, the panels are aligned end-to-end without frames.
4. Medium: Work needs to be done on 1/2” wood panel. These panels can be purchased at lumber stores. The panel will potentially be displayed both indoors and outdoors. We do our very best to protect the artwork from the elements during the outdoor exhibition, but some circumstances are beyond our control. Oil and/or acrylic paint are preferred. Please do not paint on paper or with watercolors or graphite. We cannot accept panels with protruding sculptural elements in order to protect other panels during storage.
5.  Size and format: each panel should be horizontal in orientation, measure 48” across by 24” high.

(OPTIONAL) Satellite Show submission specifications: 5 finalists will have the opportunity to display between 3 and 5 original artworks unrelated to the project for the duration of the exhibition. These works will be available for purchase by the public.
