See Renowned Artist Vito Bonanno's Solo Show 'Beauty & Chaos II' at Six Summit Gallery NYC Port Authority Public Exhibition Space

Bonanno's solo exhibition 'Beauty & Chaos II' is on display in a public art space located at The Port Authority in association with Six Summit Gallery has been extended through Fall 2022.

Internationally collected artist Vito Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, placing his innermost feelings onto canvas. The New England-based artist’s work is image and concept-driven and embedded in his personal philosophy. His art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, and dreams, coupled with objects or topics that “get stuck in his head”, including traffic lights, grids, ceiling fans, graffiti, and pop culture. Corporate clients include AMAZON, Google, and The Hartford.

The renowned mixed media artist's solo exhibition Beauty & Chaos II at Six Summit Gallery in New York City opened on August 1st, and the show has been extended on view though Fall 2022. Such a successful show, Bonanno has 20+ artworks on display in a public exhibition space located at The Port Authority in association with Six Summit Gallery. The show is comprised of older works by the artist, combined with paintings that Bonanno created throughout the Pandemic, as well as fresh, new work from Spring and Summer 2022. The exhibition could be viewed as a “retrospective” of sorts for the artist, with a history of paintings for art lovers and collectors to experience – while also understanding the deeper meaning of the artist’s body of work.

'Westbrook Pizza' 48"H x 36"W, India Ink, Oil Paint on Canvas

Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, placing his innermost feelings onto canvas. He is an award-winning, world-famous artist with a career spanning back to his childhood. The artist has participated in numerous art fairs, as well as national and international exhibitions, in addition to many art shows during Art Basel Miami Beach – most recently a NIKE pop-up in Wynwood during Miami Art Week 2021. He unveiled his first Solo Exhibition, ‘Unfiltered V: Vito Bonanno Riding with the Train Girls’, in January 2012 at Akus Gallery at Eastern CT State University which included works on paper, canvas, video pieces, a student-artist interactive mural project, and installations. Akus Gallery Director, Elizabeth Peterson stated, “The characters, objects, and ideas that inhabit Vito Bonanno’s work act and interact in striking ways. Caught within the grids and map-like structures he imagines, they are often in a struggle between multiple worlds. He has found a way to tap in the intensity of focus and insight afforded him through autism to unleash a formidable creative power and vision.”

He is one of only 16 artists in the United States selected for a prestigious exhibition of previous awardees from the VSA Emerging Artists Program in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations with sponsorship from the Volkswagen Group of America. As part of the celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the ADA and 40th Anniversary of VSA in 2015, the exhibition included the work of select artists who represented the past 13 years of the VSA Emerging Young Artist Program; Curated by Stephanie Moore, she chose Bonanno’s ‘Daffy Goes to Waterbury with a Ninja Turtle’ and ‘SECR Toilet’ to be part of the exhibition.

Vito is aligned with ArtLifting, which is a non-for-profit art organization that empowers artists living with disabilities through the celebration and sale of their artwork. ArtLifting is about creating opportunity, empowerment, and validation. This collaboration opened many new and exciting opportunities for the artist, which includes his work in Google’s corporate collection, with art hanging in their Leesburg, VA offices, as well as Amazon, for one of their corporate buildings in Seattle, Washington.

'CX Train Cars and Traffic Lights', 28h x 28w x 1.5, Spray Paint, Acrylic Oil Stick on Canvas

Bonanno was diagnosed with PDD/Autism just before his 4th birthday. Because he was language delayed, his parents and teachers developed strategies that tapped into his high visual acuity, utilizing storyboard styles to relay academic and social information. He was also encouraged to draw in storyboard format to express his feelings. The storyboard grid remains prominent in his work and studio preparation today and is a poignant reminder of a boy who was trapped in his own mind.

The New England-based artist's work is image and concept-driven and embedded in his personal philosophy. His art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, and dreams, coupled with objects or topics that “get stuck in his head”, including traffic lights, grids, ceiling fans, graffiti, and pop culture. Visit Six Summit Gallery to experience Bonanno’s current solo exhibition ‘Beauty & Chaos II’ at 625 8th Avenue, South Building Floors 1 & 2, New York, New York. The show opened August 1st, and will be on view through Fall 2022. The Betsy Hotel is well regarded for programs and partnerships that paint a portrait of Miami both old and new by embracing diversity through artist selection, subject matter, and cultural framework. Since 2018, The Betsy has exclusively focused on global photography in all but one of its 9 public galleries; the remaining gallery features the work of emerging artists working in sculpture, painting, illustration, and mixed media.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Tamary Kudita (photo): Back at The Betsy after a successful US debut of 'African Victorian' at The Betsy's 2021 Miami Art Week, Kudtia presents a new collection "Fabrics of Man, Family, and Society ... ' that explores "the impact of her country's colonial experience on African life and identity today." Tamary's new work specifically reflects "on the intersectionality of the cultural and ethnic fusion of lifestyles from the past and present, and how that is expressed in body language, facial expression, and gestures, as well as the use of clothing as a necessity, social status, and cultural emblems".

Nadia Huggins (photo): The Hotel's BBar Gallery features Strange Territory, Huggins' underwater photography, an underground space with 26 light boxes; its mylar ceiling producing a mirrored effect, making viewers feel they are under water. Huggins' cinematic underwater landscapes contain colorful flora environments and human beings interacting with Nature, inviting viewers to reflect not only on 'what I put within an image, but also what I choose to leave out of that frame".

Eric Kroll (photo): A titanic figure in contemporary photography, Eric Kroll has published high profile best-selling art books with houses like Taschen and his work has featured in countless magazines. This exhibition contains images from his new art book, THE NEW YORK YEARS 1971 to 1994 (the book!).  "There is no discipline in my life. No order. I used to think that chaos helps creativity—I'm not so sure about that anymore...I shot Grace Jones performing at Studio 54 .... I also photographed Kenny Scharf with his wife and daughter, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol in his art car ... "

Sri Prabha (multi-media), commissioned by the City of Miami Beach and using multi-media in 3 outside areas surrounding The Betsy Orb,  Sri will create a locus of attraction with this message: "We are but  a small part of the cosmos, with energies linked to ideas of regeneration, growth, and sustainability emerging from the cocoon of the pandemic to be deployed internally and for the world around us. In our existence, we ask ourselves about our responsibilities to the universe/"

BREACH Gallery presents 'More Than This' exhibition & Progressive Brunch on Oct.2nd

BREACH PRESENTS
MORE THAN THIS
SEPT 17 OCT 15
SOLO EXHIBITION FOR CES MCCULLY

PROGRESSIVE ART BRUNCH
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2ND @ 12-4PM

BREACH GALLERY PRESENTS, “MORE THAN THIS”, A SOLO EXHIBITION FOR CONTEMPORARY ARTIST CES MCCULLY. FOR HER FIRST SOLO SHOW IN THE UNITED STATES, MCCULLY PRESENTS A SERIES OF PAINTINGS THAT SEAMLESSLY MOVE FROM GEOMETRIC ABSTRACT COLOR FIELDS TO GRAPHICALLY MINIMAL SELF-PORTRAITS TO SENTIMENTS RENDERED IN PLAYFUL LETTERS THAT ON FIRST GLANCE APPEAR GENTLER THAN PERHAPS THEIR SUBTEXT WOULD SUGGEST.

IN THE PAST, MCCULLY HAS EXPLORED THEMES OF IDENTITY AND THE EVOLUTION OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL PARADIGMS AS A RESULT OF TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA. FOR “MORE THAN THIS”, SHE HAS CENTERED HER WORK AROUND THE THEME OF FEMININITY. CONTINUING TO DISCUSS QUESTIONS OF IDENTITY, SHE UTILIZES INFLUENCES FROM TEXTILE WORK AND RELIGIOUS ICONOGRAPHY TO CREATE PIECES THAT FEEL PERSONAL AND AT TIMES NOSTALGIC. HER WORK BOTH REVEALS AND EXAMINES AREAS OF SOCIETY WHERE WOMEN HAVE HISTORICALLY SOUGHT SOLACE OR WAYS TO EXERCISE THEIR VOICE OR POWER.
EXPRESSING BOTH AN INTIMATE STORY OF WOMANHOOD AS WELL AS CREATING A CULTURAL COMMENTARY THAT IS UNIVERSAL, MCCULLY EMPOWERS HER MESSAGE WITH A VERY INTENTIONAL CHOICE OF COLOR AND TEXTURE. THE TEXT SHE UTILIZES IS AT ONCE IDIOMATIC AND CRYPTIC, AS THE WORDS BLEND TOGETHER IN AN ARRAY OF MUTED COLORS. HER ABSTRACT PAINTINGS, WHOSE GEOMETRY RECALL PATTERNS OF FABRIC, ARE HARMONIOUS AND MEDITATIVE COMPOSITIONS. EMPLOYING THIS ORGANIC SENSE OF FORM, MCCULLY BRINGS FORTH WORK THAT REIMAGINES AND REAFFIRMS FEMININE SPACE.

CES MCCULLY (B. 1982) IS ORIGINALLY FROM MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, AND IS NOW BASED IN SOUTHERN FRANCE. FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS SHE HAS EXHIBITED INTERNATIONALLY THROUGHOUT EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA.
