Art Palm Beach Announces Winners of Poster Competition for 2016 Fair

In celebration of its 19th edition of ArtPalmBeach January 20 – 24, 2016 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the fair’s founders/organizers, Lee Ann and David Lester launched a new competition for the fair’s annual poster. Two winners were selected, Samantha Vassor from the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and Laura Rincon from Palm Beach State College. The Lester’s partnered with the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Palm Beach State College and the competition was open to all students from both schools, the only caveat being the inclusion of the phrase, Art Palm Beach 2016.

“We wanted the students to have creative liberty and were thrilled with the hundreds of submissions that we received. Our curatorial panel narrowed the entries down to the ten best from each school and then we opened to voting to the public,” says Lee Ann Lester. More than 33,000 votes were cast, and Ms. Vassor and Ms. Rincon received more than 40% of the votes in separate polls for each school.

“It is a great opportunity for the students to get engaged with the contemporary art world coming into their local community and learn about a part of the process behind planning and marketing a large event like Art Palm Beach,” says Lacey Van Reeth, Dean of Visual Arts, A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. “We’re very excited that Art Palm Beach, the largest art show in Palm Beach County wanted to connect with our students. It’s so important that our students exhibit their work and have the opportunity to deal with clients early on in their careers.

Palm Beach State College is thrilled that Laura Rincon, one of our talented students, will have her artwork serve as the poster for Art Palm Beach,” says Victoria R. Martin, Professor 1, Department Chair Fine Arts and Graphic Design, Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth Campus.

In addition to the prestige of serving as the official Art Palm Beach 2016 posters, Vassor’s Mt. Pink Lake and Rincon’s Self Portrait will be published in 10,000 copies of the January 2016 issue of PureHoney Magazine as 33’ x 21’ posters, and will be included in marketing campaigns with the originals exhibited at the fair.
